Most people when discussing the city of Augusta are talking about the whole area not just Richmond County, the same with Atlanta, most people are talking about all of the suburbs in Atlanta too.

Even when you factor in the suburban counties...Savannah, Athens, and Columbus still edge out Augusta on the Diversity Index. The numbers are pretty easy to read.

I agree the Augusta job market is a little iffy. If you are in the resteraunt, hotel/motel industry as well as military or medical then you got a pretty good chance for a great job. I know that there are lots of jobs for contractors going on out on the Fort. It's expanding like crazy as well!! No chance of it going anywhere thankfully!

What about Macys? What about Planet Hollywood? Where did they go Disgusta??? You talk about downtown being desolated at night. Maybe you were drunk walking around Underground and thought you were in Augusta because the first half of Broad has far more action at night than the heart of downtown Atlanta. In 5 more years the whole Broad st. area will be booming.

I just came from downtown and it was a hoppin! All the resteraunts where full! People sitting out on the patios- given this is Masters week, but usually on most nights you can drive downtown on Broad and lots going on. There are so many new establishments. Oh and Somewhere in Augusta is now in the old Doris jewlers building on Washington Rd VERY,VERY NICE!!!

Yeah.. all 5 restaurants and bars in downtown Disgusta? It's hardly hoppin' unless you are looking for a wig or a polyester leisure suit.

Disgusta you are talking about one block right. There are at least five restaurants on the block I work on alone. I see allot more downtown than you given the fat that you live in Atlanta. Downtown is more alive now than it was five years ago when I left for college. Get a life.

I just visited Augusta for the first time this past Monday. We had lunch at Blue Sky Cafe? I thought it was a charming little town, great bones...just needs a little TLC. Our waiter was telling us that the first Thursday of every month they have a big block party and have all kinds of bands playing. I had heard of the name "disgusta" before and I could see that the areas surrounding downtown weren't that great but hey what city doesn't have less desirable areas? I think it's a cute town.

I agree i was just downtown last night and it was packed on every street. I went to see the ray whitfield boxing fight at the bell auditorium downtown. ESPN came to downtown augusta just for this fight and the bell had a very large crowd. Now this is master's week but the whole downtown was full of cars. People walking up and down the streets having fun all night. Downtown is going through a boom with alot of big projects about to start or have already started. Also every resturant, bar, club, or lounge on washington rd was full from evans, to martinez, to west augusta. And yeah first friday every month is when downtown is full of people probably about 15,000 most of the time. First friday is one of the biggest events that happens downtown. Besides border bash ga vs south carolina football game. Arts in the heart festival, and 4th of july.
