Now that the discussion on the Gubernatorial thread has turned toward how Brian Kemp will govern; it is time to start a new thread.

Once Kemp takes office I will remove the elect portion of the title and this will be the Governor Kemp thread.

I'm keeping an open mind and hoping the campaign rhetoric was just bluster.

Governor Deal endorsed him, so maybe he knows something I don't.

I’m hoping you’re right. Deal has certainly surprised me since he first took office.

In addition to Brian Kemp's very close ties to and endorsement by and campaigning on Kemp's behalf by Donald Trump (who is reported to have a 51% approval rating in Georgia), Kemp very likely also benefitted from the support and popularity of outgoing Georgia Governor Nathan Kemp.

It likely may have been Deal's endorsement that helped Kemp get the votes of moderate voters who otherwise might not have been completely comfortable with the tone and rhetoric of Donald Trump.

We shall see. I think it all depends on how much he feels he needs to embrace evangelicals to secure a second term. The evangelical social-issue focused wing of the GOP and the business wing have competing interests. Deal was savvy enough to navigate through it without rustling too many feathers and keeping everyone focused on the prize of continued economic success. So far, I am not seeing that with Kemp...it is early though. He will get his chance...most likely this Spring as RFRA is sure to make a return. The business community wants no part of it (see NC and Indiana) and the evangelicals are demanding it after Deal vetoed their last attempt. Even the federal version Kemp pledged to sign ( from 25 years ago I might add) will cause quite the stink if it comes to pass. Additionally abortion restrictions passed in many conservative states will likely be introduced and Georgia while red still is not overwhelmingly so. We shall see.

Kemp is of the Purdue camp; Sonny and David. Relax. As a conservative I fear no politician, though I may oppose their policies.

Is that supposed to be a ringing endorsement for how Kemp will run the state?

If so, that's even more of a reason for many Georgians (particularly of certain demographics) to have reservations about "Governor-elect" Kemp.

Small wonder Kemp is so hot to have Abrams concede.

Wasn't a significant change. Kemp is still at 50.3%.
