Probably so! I am so happy to be moving. Of course, my parents live here in Albany and are really happy, so......

See, in my meaner moments I have voiced the conviction that the only people who willingly stay in Albany, are those who have never been anywhere else and thus don't know better, those who are FORCED to stay here because of their jobs, and those who are buried here and thus are kinda limited in their choice of job options.

LOL Yep, seems that way to me sometimes too, but I think some of the "older" folks here have their own set of peers and are set in their ways and are happy. I know my parents and their friends are happy pretty much - of course they all have houses on the Lake at Blackshear and the beach also, so travel quite a bit! They really don't understand why I (and a lot of others) are so eager to leave Albany. Of course, they are gearing up to be able to visit me in the "mountains" also!! LOL

Well, the Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany produced my two favorite movies: Flywheel and Facing the Giants. From what I understand, it's a fantastic church. If I were to move to Georgia, I'd seriously consider Albany just because of this church, because a great church is very difficult to find.

Sherwood is one of two great congregations here in town. I must be very shallow, because as much as we love our church family, I still want out of here. We like our house and yard, and have a couple of great neighbors, but the balance sheet still tips (lurches, more like) toward getting out ASAP.

Wow...poor Albany...used to be the "good life city". I was born in Phoebe Putney and lived there until I was 19 and havent come back unless to visit and after about 48 hrs...I am ready to go. Most of all my friends that only went off to college only to come back because their families are there, have migrated to lee county....so unless lee county has now become the more desirable place I dont know. But anybody who has lived or lives in Albany probably knows why everyone has fled to Lee county....and that's all I am gonna say about that.
As a child, Albany wasnt anything to write home about...however, it has some of the most charming older neighborhoods with tree canapied streets. I still love to drive back in those old neighborhoods when I come back...because they are still attractive and just so nostalgic to me. I loved the Lake park area across from the college on Gillionville....and all those homes around Lake Loretta were so nice...although some look alittle tired since I went back last yr. I remember when our mall got built and it was the grandest thing ever. We were all introduced to Gayfers and chick-fila. Got my first job working out at the mall and it was pretty sweet at the time.
Albany has always been a big farm town...our shopping areas always drew people in from the surrounding areas which were farming areas( worth county, terrell county, dawson, and fitzgerald, etc). They came to Albany for our Kmart, walmart, sams and the like.
My immediate family still lives there...and it will always be my home town regardless. It's sad...to see it go down hill...it could have so much charm to it....it the overall attitude changed. I guess those who left to go to Lee county just didnt want to stick around to make things better. You have to put back into your community and not flee.

Sometimes you must flee. It is sad though. What year and highschool did you graduate from? I was Westover '84.
