Maybe the both the heat and the depressing mentality...but trust me it is much better than when they were in the city in cage-like enclosures.

Hey, have you been downtown since they built that new riverwalk area by the Flint river? I drove by it last summer when I was there and it really looks nice. I think the concept is good, but whether or not the locals will embrace is always iffy.

How are you flourchild? Any movement on getting back to AL? I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Hang in there....at least you can roadtrip home on a weekend if you need to.

Albany used to be okay, I remember going there on dates and such. My brother and many friends live there now, and love it. I could not see myself living there, though.

UNTIL NOW.

I recently moved back to the Atlanta area, and I gotta say... dealing with the traffic here makes one long for the sweltering heat, lack of culture, and reverse racism of Albany, GA.

That's funny...going to Atlanta makes you long for Albany. It took me living in the greater LA area for me to even appreciate the simplicity of Albany. Not so much the rough edges, mind you, but more how folks are so friendly and willing to chat anytime. I still have alittle of that in me that I know I got from being there as a kid and just being a southerner in general.

I miss it...because folks are so detached out here...and honestly if I start up a conversation with a stranger standing within close proximity of me....I think it catches them off guard and they are rendered speechless because they have never experienced it before...and maybe they are a bit wary of my intentions...but it does help that I still have some of my accent left.

Thanks for asking. We've gotten some phone calls from home (Huntsville) from friends, telling us that there may be TONS of jobs opening up soon; my husband is getting his resume in order, and we're prioritizing what we want to do to the house before putting a sign in the yard. There are some people we will miss, but I still feel that we can't get out of here fast enough. Huntsville is about twice the size of Albany, but doesn't have quite the trouble with gangs/racism/crime that Albany does. I'm NOT saying Huntsville is crime-free, or paradise, but I am aching to leave here and get back home.

I just went through Huntsville 2 days ago. (Husband and I own big trucks, and I went with him for a bit). Beautiful!!! I would not mind living in the area! I liked it too because it was kind of spread out and it was really easy to drive through there. Gorgeous natural beauty!!

Runnergrl, Any idea if you may be moving this way? I hope the best for you!

Well...The company my husband works for has their corporate headquarters in Alpharetta (north of atlanta)....but he has only been with them for almost a yr come June....it is feasible that after another yr that he could ask about getting transferred and that might get the ball going...but who knows how much longer after he requests it if they are able to accommodate him there in GA. I am hoping that something will come up before that time frame is fulfilled, perhaps maybe they would ask him to move if something there came open sooner and they wanted him there. If it were up to me I'd be packing my bags right now and get on with the program, because we have moved SO much over the past 18 yrs....that I am SO ready to settle down for awhile. I dont feel that way here in CA...and we have already been here for almost 2.5 yrs. So I am praying that something will happen sooner....I wish I could tell you that we could be back there by the end of the yr, but as you know it is in God's hands. I literally have everyone praying for our return home and soon. (mom and her friends, other extended family and anyone else who is willing). With God all things are possible, right? And thanks for asking.

I hope you are settling in good in your new digs. Is your house finished yet?

Good luck and God bless with everything!

Hmmmm, Runnergrl, You do not sound as upbeat as you normally do! I understand the whole corporate "thang" and really do feel for you knowing what I do! Just know that You are such a good person, things WILL work out for you and yours!!!! You said it when you said that basically God will work it out. You know that He will, and we must all just trust that all things happen in His time. I know that you are homesick, but just do all that you can to try and "help" things along this way. Jobs for him, etc... Please let me know if I can help, I know sometimes it is not what you know, but who you know. Stay in touch, and just know that things WILL work out for ya'll!!!!

Kat

Runnergrl, what Katsmeeyow said, times two. I feel yer pain.

I'm glad you liked Huntsville, Katsmeeyow! It IS really a great place--like I said, nowhere on earth is heaven, but Huntsville's nice.
