Question Moving from TX, need advice!!

Hello All,
My husband just accepted an position in Milledgeville, and thats great but the problem is that I do not want to reside in the Macon area. We have an 8 year old daughter so public/or private schools are an important factor to us. I don't want to be in an rural rural area, want neighbors close but not arms length like here in TX (the houses are so close together here).
But my questions are:
what area between Atlanta and Milledgeville do you think is good, family oriented, safe, not to congested, and has a great schools? We were looking in the PTC area, but the commute was too long of a drive. I will not work at this point, staying home with our daughter to help her adjust to the new area. We will move this summer after school is out here in Texas, but he's already there and we are renting an apartment in the North Macon area, been there to look around and its just not my preference on where I want to buy property. But any advice is appreciated, and thanks so much for any comments.

-h

Peachtree City is not an option if you would be working in Milledgeville. YOu are talking about atleast a 100 mile drive each way. If you want to be part of metro Atlanta.. the closest you will get to Milledgeville is probably Covington.. and that's still a pretty long haul. Actually Milledgeville is not a bad place to live. It's a decent sized town.. it's also very close to Lake Sinclair.. if you are interested in waterfront living. Your closest metro area will be Macon. There are good and bad parts of Macon. Generally, the northside of Macon is nicer. But take a look at Milledgeville first..because you might just like it.

I'll have to back Disgusta up on this...don't rule Milledgeville out before you get to know it. I've spent a lot of time there myself (my sister lived there for a time, and my best friend in college was from there). It strikes me as a very pleasant college town with nice neighborhoods, and would especially appeal to families.
