My wife and I are moving to augusta after a job offer I have recieved. We are especially interested in where to live, or where not to live, in the augusta area? We would like to know the best suburbs or cities in the metro area. The house we want to purchase can be in the range of
170- 185k. Also are the cities/surburbs better between augusta & atlanta. Or augusta & columbia south carolina? Thanks in advance for your insight. |

I have been in augusta for about 2 years after moving from atlanta. I have some family that already stayed in the area before i moved here. Here is what i hear most of the time
1. West augusta 2. Evans 3. Aiken 4. North Augusta 5. Martinez 6. Grovetown 7. Hephzibah/Burke county/ South richmond county 8. Thomson 9. Mccormick 10. lincoln And i would say its about a tie between the cites between augusta-atlanta, and augusta-columbia. Last edited by poptart; 04-13-2008 at 06:57 PM. |

You are talking about a 140 mile gap between Atlanta and Augusta that is mostly rural. About 60 miles separates Augusta and Columbia, SC.. which is also mostly rural. between Augusta and Columbia.. Aiken is a bright a spot ( 17 miles from Augusta). Between Augusta and Atlanta.. the lake Oconee area and Madison are quite nice (abpout 70 miles from Augusta). Within the metro Augusta area.. the more affluent suburbs tend to be on the westside, especially in northeastern Columbia County. There are also some very nice neighborhoods in North Augusta, SC and Aiken, SC. Generally, East and South Augusta are less desirable areas.

Pretty much as said before. West augusta, columbia county, north augusta, aiken, etc. Just avoid south augusta. Hephzibah and waynesboro can be nice if you want to be really away from it all and have large plot of inexpensive land. But but the southern part of augusta is really just too far from any things of interests.

Grovetown is a small city in columbia county that's growing. They're building thier own walmart and highschool. Pretty good for a city of 7 to 10,000 people.

North Augusta is pretty nice. They have something called "The Greenway" which is a cool bike trail that can get you around a large part of the city. It's also pretty accessible to downtown. There are a lot of different parts to West Augusta too. Columbia County is said to have the best schools of the 3. But there are options in all of the counties.

My husband is commuting to SRS from NC I have been trying to decide to move down. I have been down a few times but have only seen Aiken (was not impressed). We drove around North Augusta, I liked the area, but nothing above I-20 mostly in city limits along the river side. Now I am thinking it might be better to look in Augusta instead. What's the consensus on Augusta.....just me and my husband...no kids.
