Default Cumming name change

We recently moved to Cumming, GA. Love the area, great schools, nice neighborhood......but really, the city is called "Cumming?" I'm embarrassed to put that on my Christmas cards. I am by NO means "conservative", I'm not a B-bangin' southerner, just a regular ole gal who thinks the name of this town "blows".......really, no pun intended. Any possibility to petition for a name change??? Could that ever be a possibility? Maybe I should start a new annual festival called "Taste of Cumming" or how about "We really liked Alpharetta, but we love Cumming!" uuuugh! How about Vickery, GA or Lanier, GA.....Anything, GA

Try introducing yourself at an out of state college. Normally I can get away with just saying "outside of Atlanta" but some people are familiar with the suburbs and laugh hysterically when I get specific. I've even seen several people on my campus and other schools around Boston wearing a tshirt with a picture of Georgia and a star on Cumming saying "where getting there is half the fun". Yeah... Lovely.

Could be worse...there's a town in SW GA named Climax...and a few miles down the road is Recovery.
Just try not to think too much about your town's name and instead bathe in the afterglow of your lovely community.

It's not all that bad, at least it is distinguished from the other monogamous Atlanta suburbs. Besides, the town is named after a person is it not? I think it would be disrespectful to remove it.

Yes; it's named after Col. William Cumming, a hero of the War of 1812.

It's most famous resident was Junior Samples from Hee-Haw. Be proud, Cummingians.

Oh come on now do you really think that you are going to get enough people in this county that has grown up here their entire life to agree to a name change for this county?! Just be like the rest of us and deal.....we've lived here our whole lives and only people that move in to our county think of it in a different way. Be respectful of the person it was named after.

Imagine driving North and seeing the "Cumming Next Three Exists" sign. Explain that one to your relatives.

Grew up near Gay, GA. Well respected surname in Georgia long before the word grew to mean what it does today. Let the novelty wear off for those who are amused and then it just becomes what is.

Nobody is going to change the name of the town, nice try though. Since this is the only incorporated town in the county, a more possible scenario would be a consolidated city/county government with the name of Forsyth. But then there is a Foysth just north of Macon, so that wouldn't work either.

This reminds me of the directors of one of the banks in Griffin, GA when I was a kid: Cheatham, Cumming and Goin. My mother swears to me this was true.
