JAZZY.. the problem with these numbers is that Savannah gets shortchanged on itys true metro area. Whereas Augusta gets Aiken and Edgefield counties in South Carolina included in their stats.. Jasper and Beaufort Counties (right across the river from downtown Savannah) get left out of Savannah's numbers. When you factor those two counties in.. Savannah jumps ahead of Augusta. Not to mention that Chatham county alone has 45,000 more people than Richmond County. MDSA stats are very tricky.. because you are trying tro draw conclusions on economic activity from stats manipulated by political, rather than economic units of measurement. Political boundaries are not always congruent with economic boundaries.

It's not really a problem. Those counties don't yet meet the qualifications to be included in the Savannah metro.

There is alot of growth in augusta going on right now. I think we will outpace alot of georgia cities in the future. And even the south carolina cities.

what is occurring in Augusta isn't so much growth as it is replacing older obsolete shopping centers, etc. For every new shopping center that opens in the augusta area you can drive around town and find 4 empty ones. The only part of metro Augusta that is seeing any real growth is Columbia County. Augusta and richmond county grew less than one half of one percent last year.. after several years of actually losing population. Many of the construction projects are "catch up" projects planned over a decade ago.
The Villages at Riverwatch and the watermark condos has stalled.. with no clear sign when construction will begin, if ever.

Augusta is a fluke, the title of this thread is a fluke, the statistics presented in it is a fluke, and more importantly the people protecting simple unture facts that Augusta has more of anything than Savannah whether its people, tourist, business, or whatever is a fluke.

How can Savannah a metro of 320k to 330k. Have more businesses and people than a metro of 540k to 550k. Some of you people crack me up. Can you named one area or city in Metro Augusta that construction isn't going on in. Augusta will leave Savannah, Macon, and Columbus behind in the next 4 years. Ride through Augusta then ride threw the other 2nd tier cities. And lets compare the amount of growth and construction going on in each.

You doing all that talking. I bet you can't find anything with a link. That says Savannah has more people and businesses than Augusta.

First off, who cares about Greenville, SC. Secondly, Augusta will leave no other 2nd tier city behind. For population growth, Columbus will beat out all 2nd tier cities over the next few years. As for retail growth, it seems as if Macon is leading there. Augusta is losing population.

The city of Augusta or Richmond County are not losing population. Our metro population is growing faster than columbus, savannah, and macon.

And columbus in population growth will beat out the 2nd tier cities. That won't happen definitely in metro population growth or even city population growth. And oh my god did you say as for as retail growth Macon is leading there. Have you been to Augusta lately? I have driven through columbus, macon, and savannah this year. And the amount of construction going on in those cities. Can't even compare to the amount of construction in Augusta.
