There's a difference between a building being designated as a historic site and one that is for profit. Those are for profit sites that people pay to get into like museums etc. All the metros have more historic sites than what is listed, but since there's no income generated from them they are not part of the Economic Census. The Economic Census is concerned with dollars and cents. Now as I said, if you have a problem with any of the statistics, complain to the government or do your own.

I don't know anything about Augusta, but the downtown area of Savannah, near River Street, has opened a lot of store over the past few years.

Savannah has the nicest downtown of any Georgia City.. much better than Atlanta, which is nothing but a concrete jungle that closes down after 6pm.
Athens ranks next.. Sometimes great things come in small packages. Athens' downtown is compact but full of nightlife options, great restaurants, shops, condos, apts. It is very pedestrian friendly, built at a human scale and pedestrians can be found at all times.

The Best Things in Life are Free, with the economy the way it is who wants to pay to see anything, especially something in Disgusta.

Macon has one and their shopping is no way near the level of Augusta's or Savannah's. Columbia SC doesn't have one and their shopping is even better than all three. Hell I don't even think New York City has a Bass Pro Shopps and they have the best shopping.
Forgive my ignorance, but why is it essential to have a Bass Pro Shop to determine whether shopping in an area is good or not? I think listing that as a shopping priority is hilarious.

Default Augusta has step up its shopping choices

There are several new stores that have open up in the metro area. Especially downtown augusta and at augusta mall.
