As for the Medical Center of GA, I just heard they brought in a consultant company to look into layoffs. A good friend of mine is a nurse there, and she said they are laying off nurses left and right.

DOT's commuter rail line target date of 2011 is 'ambitious'

PERRY -- The Georgia Department of Transportation has everything it needs to start a commuter rail line from Atlanta to Griffin, except for an agreement to actually use existing rail lines, $107 million in construction funding, federal sign-offs for the plan, enough money to fund annual operations, land for the train stations or actual train cars to carry passengers.
Still, commuter rail remains a high priority for DOT Commissioner Gena Evans, and the line from Atlanta to Griffin has the support of Gov. Sonny Perdue. Macon Mayor Robert Reichert has said he hopes that means the line will eventually extend to Macon, as was planned years ago. To make any 2011 timeline, the DOT needs to figure out how to fund operations by April,

Reichert floats warehouse idea

PERRY -- For years, local leaders have said Macon has a bright economic future in the distribution business.

With major interstates meeting in Macon, a massive railyard in Brosnan Yards and the Savannah port a little more than two hours away, warehousing and distribution already is a part of the area's recent economic growth.

But there's talk of a super project of sorts, combining all these efforts in a string of warehouses near the Middle Georgia Regional Airport that would bring air freight into the picture. Macon Mayor Robert Reichert pitched the idea Thursday to the the Georgia Department of Transportation board meeting in Perry.

It's not a new idea, and it's not one project but rather a multitude of them, with public funding for roads and infrastructure improvements and private money for warehouses and other equipment. But Reichert, who was asked by Middle Georgia DOT board representative Larry Walker to present the idea, said "this is the right time" to move on the idea.

jam 5 will become famous soon enoughjam 5 will become famous soon enough
im not trying to put macon down or anything but i dont see macon georgia becoming a major city no time soon maybe in 7 to 10 years from now macon may become a major city but not right now because theres only one reason why and the reason is because macon does not have enough population of people right now for it to become a major city all though macon may feel like a bigger city than the other 2nd tier cities in georgia but macon is really not because macons population is only 93,665 people in just the city of macon and thats pretty low for it to become a major city and another thing is your city needs to have at least 100,000 thousand people in the city for it to become a major city and macon does not have 100,000 people in the city of macon yet but macon is getting there to the 100,000 thousand mark but it may take another 7 to 10 years for the city of macon to get to the 100,000 mark i was also reading on here on one of the threads about macon music hall of fame or the sports hall of fame maybe moving to atlanta i dont no if its true or not but thats what i read on one of the threads and the reason why the music hall of fame or the sports hall of fame may be moving to a bigger city with 100,000 people is because macon is to small macon does not have enough population of people in the city of macon to support the music hall of fame or the sports hall of fame

now heres the major cities in georgia with 100,000 in each city these are just the cities by there selfs no other counties near by are not being added or counted in with the city just the city alone is being counted. the number one city in georgia for having the most population of people is the city of atlanta with about 486,411 in just the city limits of atlanta only. this information is coming from the 2006 u.s. census bureau. the next second biggest city is augusta georgia with about 189,366 in the city limits of augusta only. the third largest city in georgia is columbus georgia with about 188,660 in the city limits of columbus only. the fourth largest city is savannah georgia with about 127,889 in the city limits of savannah only.and the last city in georgia that has not become a major city yet because they dont have 100,000 in the city limits yet is macon georgia. macon georgia has not become a major city yet because they dont have 100,000 thousand people in the city limits of macon yet but there getting there but when macon georgia does reach the 100,000 mark they will become and be a major city to

and the reason why im saying macon has not became a major city yet is because macon georgia only has 93,665 people in the city limits of macon only. and a city needs at least 100,000 or more to become a major city. so dont think im putting macon down because im not it is the truth because i looked this information up on the internet . and another thing yaw talk about and put columbus georgia down all the time talking about that the city feels small and theres hardly no traffic or cars on the road in columbus well i can answer that question for you the reason why is because columbus is spread out all over the place so theres cars and traffic in diffrent parts and places of the city also columbus georgia is bigger than you think it is and at least columbus georgia has 100,000 or more living in the city so columbus has been a major city for a long time. and columbus georgia is really going to boom big time when brac moves here because thats going to bring alot of people here thats going to bring our city population up to around near 200,000 people in the city of columbus macon georgia has not even became a major city yet because yaw dont have 100,000 or more in the city yet

Jam the last few comments you have just posted does not make ANY sense at all. Population does not determine if a city becomes major or will consider being one. Everyone knows the only reason why Augusta and Columbus city limits pop is so high is because of city and county pop are consolidated… If Macon/Bibb county population consolidates, Macon pop will shoot up to about 160,000. Before Augusta consolidated with Richmond according to the US census it had only 40-60,000 people with in the city limits. Jam let me broaden you knowledge of what makes a city major.

 Large economic ties nationally, in its state and/or local economics, regional and Metro area
 Major faculties such as Airports, Railway, Interstates & highways systems; generally having advanced systems for sanitation, utilities, land usage, housing, and commuter transportation and more.

For an example population does have a single thing to do with being a major city. In the state of Delaware, Wilmington is the largest city in the state; Much of Wilmington's economy is based on its status as the most populous and readily accessible city in Delaware with an estimated population of 72,826. Wilmington is served by the Wilmington Rail Station, with frequent service between Boston, Massachusetts, and Washington, DC, via Amtrak's Northeast Corridor, with additional local service to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania via SEPTA Regional (commuter) Rail.

Also I can provide other major cities with pop smaller than 100,000 but that would take up to much time, no disrespect jam but you really need to know what you talking about before you go an post a whole bunch of non sense as you have done in your previous posts, it only shows your ignorance on this topic.. as well as you sentence structure. “Helpful hint for the future” Please sure make you know what you talking before you post….

I do not agree that nor Macon, Columbus, Savannah or Augusta will become a Major anytime soon as long as Atlanta is grabbing every opportunities that hit the GA line. But I do believe that Macon will become another hot spot in Ga. has Atlanta did in the beginning stages of its success, which the same theory has also been supported by state, local and government officials.
Reasons:
 Macon Centralized location and Proximity to Atlanta/ Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and the port cities of Savannah, Brunswick, Charleston, and Jacksonville. Macon has much to offer business and industry relocating to our city: A strategic location, small town attributes with the amenities of a larger city.
 Cross roads for Major interstates access (I-75,475&16), Railway system with the state second largest rail yard
 Proposed Commuter rail system between ATL & Macon
 Proposed Reliever Airport for Hartsfield
 The Macon community rich in history and culture, with an available and affordable workforce, state of the art technical training, four colleges and universities with over 30,000 students, over 1200 acres of Business and Industrial parks, a strong school system, solid utility infrastructure and low cost of doing business, Macon has much to offer new or relocating businesses.

These are things that developers, investors and State officials look for when considering a city for project and growth opportunities….

WHY ALL THE HATE FOR MACON........................

ok what ever im not going to argure with people i was just saying that a city needs to have at least 100,000 or more to become a major city and yerocal population does mean a lot in a city is that why macons music hall of fame and macons sports hall of fame maybe possibly moving to atlanta because macon does not have enough people in the city to support it because people say that the place is dead and there is hardly no vistors so population does mean alot in a city you have to have alot of population in a city to keep businesses open and running because if not it will shut and close down and move to a bigger city with alot more population of people and i think the reason why these businesses shut down and go to bigger citys is because theres a more population of people there and the more population you have in a city the more customers and business you will get
