yes, Virginia, Columbus has a small volume of air carrier passengers. But our northern suburbs at Rush Hour are almost as close timewise as Alpharetta. With less hassle.
And as for commuting, at 530 we're already on the golf course or fishing, while you're still in traffic. :-)

If you really want to compare metro area look at Atlas. Macon itself might not be growing very rapidly the metro is you can't deny that. IF you look at the other second tier metro's it just the main city thats growing. The other metros doesn't have cities with a population over 8,000 and growing and by that I mean Warner Robins, Perry and Fort Valley. Albany just has itself, Columbus has Phoenix City, Lagrange Is kinda in Between Atlanta and Columbus. Augusta has Aiken. The other Metro with More cities in it than the Central Georgia metro is the Atlanta metro

I think Columbus is fast becoming Georgia's next major city, especially with its location on the GA/AL boarder and a short distance from the FL panhandle. Columbus is already laying the economic foundation to establish massive growth through BRAC expansion of Ft. Benning which will bring thousands of new soldiers and their families to the Chattahoochee Valley region. Columbus also has major national and internationally recognized businesses headquartered here such as AFLAC and TYSY. The new Kia plant and NCR will also bring in new jobs to the area.
Columbus-Phenix City-Ft. Benning and the entire Chattahoochee Valley should be an area closely watched over the next decade for explosive growth and development.

Thats the same for Augusta too. The cities population has been moving up or down slowly but the metro is booming. Evans, Ga has 17,000 people and Martinez, GA 27,000. On the SC side of the metro, Aiken is 25,000 strong in population and North Augusta is about 17,000. By the end of the year 520 (Palmetto Parkway) will be complete, opening up alot of undeveloped land. Augusta will began to compete with cities like Chat-town and Columbia.

Lol. Augusta city limits and the metro is growing. Augusta is the only 2nd tier city with two suburban counties. That have a population of atleast 100,000 people. Aiken 155,000 and Columbia 112,000. Evans, Aiken, Grovetown, North Augusta, and Martinez. All have more than 8,000 residents. Hephzibah, Thomson, Edgefield, Belvedere, and Waynesboro have atleast 5,000 in their city limits.
Why would you think that? When Macon metro is 230,000. 300,000 less than Augusta's 535,000.

Georgia is a lot like Illinois... One MAJOR metro area and several medium and small metro areas. I do not see the dynamic changing. Still, the VAST majority of the growth in Georgia is all in metro Atlanta. The other metro areas are growing, but very modestly and no where near the level of metro Atlanta. I do not see Georgia becoming like North Carolina, Florida, or Texas when it comes to distribution of growth. For the second tier cities, what should matter most is the QUALITY of life, not just growth for the sake of growth.

Do you mean Chat-town or Chuck-town(Charleston)? Because Augusta is growing faster than Chattanooga. According to the census. Augusta GDP and metro is larger than Chattanooga too.

population is only half the equation. Im pretty sure Chattanooga has more of a big city feel than Augusta. Columbus has alot more people than Macon but they are almost the same city.

Columbus should have laid their economic foundation many years ago but chose to sit on their hands while other much smaller cities caught up with and surpassed them.
BRAC will be the cities final nail in the economic coffin as they are completely and utterly unprepared for this move and local council and their cronies are only looking for how many dollars they can shove in their pockets and not for the benefit of local citizens......rofl
They had to get a loan from Obama just to pay for the NCR deal which wasn't even that much...facts and more facts.
I mean honestly 2 or 3 internationally recognized businesses? who cares?
