Savannah was first in new residents from 2006 to 2007 but augusta was second. So if those patterns continue until say about 2015. With augusta already having 200,000 more people than savannah in its MSA. The next major city in georiga will likely be augusta first. It will be the first city to have its metro population top the 1 million mark. Plus Augusta is in a perfect location. Its was already close to savannah and now the savannah river pkwy is complete. I-3 or whatever number they want to call it will go from savannah to augusta. So the two cities will become more together in the future. Augusta is only a hour away to columbia. And I-520/I-20 has a major interchange project and widening in aiken county south carolina. Which has areas like North Augusta or Aiken only 40 or 30 mins to columbia. Augusta is only two hours away from atlanta. There is construction on I-20 now in outer counties of AUG going to atlanta so growth is coming to I-20 between augusta and atlanta. Conyers and other counties are not that far away from outer counties in augusta. Then we still can captalize on the I-85 growth near atl and greenville.

Major cities in america( new york, miami, la, chicago, dc, atlanta, houston )

Then the next level would be nashville, raleigh, charlotte, birmingham, richmond

That's not what I meant. What's the definition of a major city..a city over 1 million, a city in the top 50 or what? I mean different people can have an opinion on what they think a major city is.

Columbus and Macon shouldn't even be in the conversation right now, especially Columbus until they get a real interstate and a real mall.

Columbus is Macon, without the good interstate access, traffic, 4 or 5 tall buildings downtown, and decent sized mall. Thats it.

I'm not sure if Augusta and Savannah are like this now, but I know Columbus AND Macon still have nothing that is open late at night but Krystal's and the Waffle House. Macon and Columbus shouldn't be in the conversation right now, but you'd have to take Macon before Columbus as of right now. Columbus is dead, I mean have you guys actually been there?

It's between Savannah and Augusta, obviously.

How is Columbus on the same level as Augusta and Savannah, when it's 2008 and they still haven't got a real interstate and mall with more than 1 floor?

Columbus is dead? You can't be serious. Go there and look at all of the development that it taking place. Everywhere you go there are new restaurants, retail, hotels, etc being built. What other city in GA (outside of Atlanta) will have nearly 45,000 new people move to it in the next 2-3 years. Hmmmm let me think.......NONE! Columbus is positioned to grow by leaps and bounds due to BRAC, Aflac's expansion, tourism venues, etc. The new National Infantry Museum alone is expected to draw 500,000 people each year. With Kia coming on line next year as well as Aflac's 2,000+ new jobs and Fort Benning's 3 billion dollar expansion, it is evident that the region will continue to grow. You don't understand things like shift-share analysis (look it up, you might learn something) that points Columbus to be the largest employment gaining city outside of Atlanta.

look at Mr. "ATLCOL1" not being able to comprehend what he reads. I said as of right now columbus is dead, telling me about what's going to happen in the future doesn't have anything to do with right now. Like I said, Columbus cant be doing too much if it's 2008 and you haven't been important enough of a city to attract major interstate access to the city, or a decent mall for locals. You aren't on Savannah or Augusta's level face it.

When all of those 3 billion jobs, expansions, projects, etc. you mentioned have been completed maybe so, but as of right now there is nothing special about Columbus that would put it up on Savannah and Augusta's level, anybody who's been through those cities can see that.

Name places in Columbus open late (after 12) besides Krystal's and the waffle house, naming gas stations don't count. It's not like there's an entire strip where you can get something to eat with 24 hr. restaurants or something like in a major city. It's dead.
