The census estimates that Columbus lost nearly 4,800 people from 2006 to 2007 - that loss was the second-greatest among U.S. cities for the one-year period, according to the Census Bureau.

In March 2007, more than 3,000 U.S. Army soldiers stationed at Fort Benning were deployed to Iraq. The loss in the city's population may can be explained by their deployment and the subsequent relocation of their families.

Ok Columbus your slipping....lol

Troop deployments and suburbanization to Harris and Lee County. Got 40,000+ folks coming in 2-3 years so nothing to worry about .

So much for that respected and cited source.
Could have got that info from local fortune teller for next to nothing.

As Atlcol1 said....case closed.

I voted for Savannah and Macon.Savannah has it because of the many of the reason stated by DisgustaTruth. Its got a really booming port that is fastly becoming more international everyday.Savannah is usually in the top 10 or 15 most tourist go in America.NONE of the other cities can ever get that exposure. You guys In the 1820s Savannah was the 18 largest city in America.New Orleans and Chareleston were in the top 5.Cities can grow by leaps and bounds just annexing.Augusta is only as big as it is (the city) because of consolidation. Not because of growth.
noerth aon
Macon on other hand has fast growing Warner Robins to the south and because of Atlanta n the north.Mass transit studies for the state almost all say Macon is logistically better .
