Sorry if that offended you...That wasnt my intention.

You just seem to be so sympathetic to blacks, when the bottom line is, they are responsible for where they are. Its not the fault of whites that blacks are killing blacks...its not the fault of whites that more blacks are in prison...its not the fault of whites that poverty is in the black community....Its not the fault of whites that the very "fashion" of black teens is in correlation to how jail attire fits.....
My statement was meant this way....If you have fallen in to "white guilt" (as it appears you have) then there is no need to continue because you wont see the double standard...and what was meant by "lumping" you in with the idiots at Farrahkan rallies was that if you have fallen into white guilt, then you are just as unreachable as they are.....

Nada....
I was in L.A. during the South Central riots. That was a weird time. Watching on the news myriads of people freely looting and literally burning down the city while laughing about it on camera. And what was weird was that they were burning down their own neighborhoods and black-owned businesses. The shop-keepers tried putting signs in the windows that read ‘black owned business’ but that didn’t stop some of them. Then when it was all done and the fires were finally put out, there were huge lines of people that wrapped around buildings waiting for their welfare checks.

This type of thing is not helpful to an image. It stays in people’s minds for the rest of their lives.

I solved my own problem, I moved out of a crime infested city.

Regarding holding someone responsible for the burden they have placed on society, that is a different story. I think the problem with political correctness is that too often, it suppresses needed criticism especially constructive criticism.

If people continue to blame their personal shortcomings on another race for the next 100 years things will not get better for those people. Although there is hope, I watch a lot of CSPAN and have watched over the years conferences held about Black America, and while some of them continue to blame society (aka white people), some people actually start to point to personal responsibility as the solution to the problem.

LLD,

Regarding the Columbine analogy, the difference is that no white person would sit there and try to rationalize their psycho behavior and blame another race for why it happened.

One last thing regarding your points about perception and statistics. I actually think people take all that information in and process it in a logical way. It has to do with the common place nature of the crime, the location they are in and other factors that contribute to their sense of safety.

For example, while it’s true that some white kid in a low crime 90% white neighborhood could be the next Columbine type killer, the odds of that happening are much lower than if I walked along a high crime black inner city street with an easy to get to purse by my side. BTW I had my purse stolen twice and my car broken into three times in Los Angeles. And while there I learned of far worse stories from friends of mine. So I am unfortunately familiar with these types of things.

Crime can happen anywhere, but we as humans have to process data and odds and probabilities as best we can to try to make our lives as safe as possible.

I could write more to explain my views, but suffice to say that I am well aware that not all people of a particular race are criminals or would-be criminals, that is obvious to anyone. But there is a high enough disproportionate percentage (relative to other groups) that in my opinion ruins it for the other people in that same group who are just trying to live a decent life.

I just wish that the anger that is directed to white people or society as a whole could be redirected to their brethren that are given them the negative reputation.

Well, I think I have spent enough time on the forum today, it was nice talking to you and the others, even though we disagree.

GP2, I have no white guilt. I didn't enslave anyone or segregate things nor am I racist. I am however aware of the issues of racism and poverty in the country both historically and currently, and how both of those things can affect people. Those are the external factors. The internal factors of course are personal choices and motivation and working hard etc.

I will say it makes me sad to see some of the uninformed views I see and the prejudice still out there. I am a sympathetic and compassionate person to anyone dealing with racism, classism, prejudice, bias, poverty etc. regardless of their race and ethnicity.

Maybe because I'm a woman and have suffered somewhat similar bias and unfairness I understand a bit what minorities go through sometimes. And I can certainly identify.

I've lived in Atlanta over 7 years and have not encountered any kind of racism. Frankly, I think racism is everywhere.

Here's some faulty logic: The suburban school shootings we have had in recent years Ann, like Columbine, are what I'm talking about. Not drive-by shootings in cities. Those were all white boys.

This is why we use crime statistics, not just one event that the media happens to pick up on and use over and over to make some false point that "white boys" commit crimes too. We all know white people commit crimes. Crime statistics include crimes committed by "white boys". It's just that the media has realized it can get better news ratings talking about crimes committed by white people that by blacks, which is far more mundane.

But, we haven't even touched the tip of the iceburg when it comes to prison crimes. Who's committing the vast majority of prison rape, murder, drug offenses, beatings, etc? Hint: it's not "white boys".

The race-crime connection is so blatently obvious to everyone that it never ceases to shock me that intelligent black people and white appologists still try to make excuses for it. Or, even worse, use such awful logic to try to convince others that whites and blacks are equally as likely to be criminals. This is just pure, 100% unadulterated bunk! Any individual Black, white, asian, or latino family is safer living in a predominantly white neighborhood than a predominantly black neighborhood.

Ann 2007, where did you gather your information from? Please note your sources. You stated that Reparations have already been paid, some in the form of welfare benefits. I didn't realize that African Americans were the only race to receive welfare. I have relatives who work at the Department of Social Services, and you will be surprised at how many whites receive welfare. So when a white family receives benefits, are they receiving reparations as well? And if there were 3,000 so-called African-American slave owners in the ante-bellum south, what were the numbers of white slave owners?

Gp2 I wonder if you ever pray. I don't really feel a need to comment on the nonsense you typed, but it’s just that Ann 2007 typed a whole heap of mumble jumble; I felt the need to respond to just a few things. Ann 2007 you also noted that " in the thousand years of its existence, there never was an anti-slavery movement until white Christians - Englishmen and Americans -- created one". I guess Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglas, etc... Didn’t have anything to do with the freedom and livelihood of African Americans. It's irrelevant who actually started the movement. White America/Christians/Englishmen had the power, influence, and resources, so that is to be expected. That’s the least that could be done, after all the beatings, rapes and murders. Now, you can type as many essays as you want on here, but some things remains true...[b]Racism is alive and well, You are definitely a racist, Blacks have struggled since the beginning in the United States at no fault of theirs. And yes we continue to struggle. Should we as a people take any responsibility for the present break down of the African-American community? Yes Indeed! Did the past dramatically affect the future? Yes indeed! Moreover, white people don’t just move from neighborhoods, where African Americans are behaving poorly, they just move when they see African Americans. It’s called "fear of the unknown" and "We think we are better than you". Or I think it may be intimidation that African American families are just as educated and are doing just as well as they are. Thats a sad, sad thing.
