[quote=Quatro;3685891] Any suggestions of more liberal possibly bohemian areas to move to would be greatly appreciated. I love America and can't wait to move there but I am becoming increasingly worried.

What about Asheville, NC? I've never been there but hear it's very liberal and artsy. Lots of hippies live there. It's in the mountains in western North Carolina.

Atlanta inside and outside the perimeter has great shopping, restaurant choices - everything you could possibly want/need, however LA and Atlanta are consistent in one big negative - both areas have really mediocre air quality. How important is that to you? I understand that most people must go where good work is, but could you move further out to an area like Athens (as an example)? It's a trade-off. How important to you is your health?

I agree with you about the air quality. However, on my ony visit to downtown Athens, I was quite disappointed in the small size and lack of variety. It seemed most of the downtown was the university (which is beautiful) and a very few restaurants, bars and small shops within about 6 blocks. Not enough of a city life for me!

Yes. That's one of the trade-offs, but cleaner air and never having smoked decreases your odds of needing the services of an oncologist. Look at morbidity data linked to respiratory diseases for greater LA and Atlanta areas - it's statistically higher than most areas in the U.S. Trade-offs, trade-offs, trade-offs.
