My partner and I (we're a gay couple) are looking for a town near Atlanta that has fairly rural land. I understand this may not be 15min from Atlanta since it's such a large city, but we're just looking for the ones that are the closest. We would like to live in our tiny house in a relatively rural area that's still a decent distance from the city. As mentioned prior, we're gay so being near Atlanta is important to us since there's a prominent liberal/gay scene.
I appreciate any suggestions!

Try looking in and around the trendy and progressive North Georgia Mountains town of Blue Ridge (and surrounding Fannin County), which is an area that has become a popular destination for LGBTQ individuals and allies.

Because of the reputation of much of the area being accepting and accommodating to LGBTQ factions and their allies, and because of the relatively easy and direct access that Georgia State Route 515 provides to metro Atlanta (the town of Blue Ridge is roughly about 90 miles from Central Atlanta via GA-515, I-575 and I-75), Blue Ridge and Fannin County very likely should be the first place that you look for property.

But White County, which is a fairly tolerant North Georgia mountains/foothills area that includes communities like Cleveland and the German-themed tourist-oriented village of Helen, is also an area where you could look.

Dahlonega (which as the historic site of the nation’s first gold rush, and as the site of the flagship campus of the University of North Georgia which attracts many outsiders from nearby metro Atlanta) and surrounding Lumpkin County (whose many wineries attract visitors from nearby metro Atlanta and other parts of the country) could also be options.

Areas even closer to Atlanta like Hall County (the industrial powerhouse of the Northeast Georgia Mountains region), Dawson County (a foothills county that is the site of such popular landmarks as Amicalola Falls, which is reported to be the highest waterfall east of the Rockies; and the North Georgia Premium Outlets Mall) as well as fast-growing outer-suburban foothills metro Atlanta counties like Cherokee County, Forsyth County and exurban Pickens and Gilmer counties might also be good options.

And for Blue Ridge you won’t be right in town either as it’s increasing in popularity these days. Dahlonega might be another choice.

I can’t see any other options an hour’s drive within Atlanta.
