Plenty others do not agree with that. To each his own.

I'm the realist here. I can accept the negative and the positive statements about Macon if they are reasonable/true. But with you guys, if anything is said about Columbus that doesn't make it seem like heaven you act like its murder. All I said was that it's dull and boring TO ME. If someone says Macon is dull or boring, I wouldn't really care. BUT in comparison to Columbus? Its not that boring.

LOL. People are acting like Columbus is such a city of fun and exciting nightlife with lots of things to get into and that you have no idea where I came from when I said its dull and boring.

Look, even as the younger person involved in this I feel I am the mature one, as it seems JLA and ATLCOL1 have to throw INSULTS directed at users to try and add strength to what ever point they are trying to express.

The problem is some of you guys get all defensive if someone says ANYTHING about your town that doesn't make it seem perfect.

If my personal experience in Columbus led me to believe that Macon feels like more of a true city with more to do? Then thats MY opinion. How can you argue with me about my opinion? If someone says Macon was too dull for them, cool, thats their opinion. I wouldn't argue them down about their opinion like some of you guys do.

The only time I feel the need to step in is when people try to exaggerate or lie in attempt to prove a point. For an example, a person from Columbus talking down on Macon because of our African-American poverty percentage when their's is only a couple percent lower? See that just doesn't make sense.

It was just boring to me. Thats all.
There are enough statistic throwing guys on this site that generalize and say rude things about an ENTIRE CITY and ITS PEOPLE, for you to seem so bothered by me simply saying that I found your town boring.

I prefer Macon and you prefer Columbus, that's just the way it is and I'm leaving it at that. I was only explaining why I felt Columbus seemed so much smaller than it is.

The last census was taken from 2005. Augusta city and richmond county has gained people in 2006 and 2007. You don't even live in augusta. You live in suburban atlanta. We know you have something against augusta. Because several people have told you it gained people. But you continue to lie and say its shrinking when its not. Why are you talking about a city you know nothing about. Columbus whole population is muscogee county. Augusta city population has 7,000 ppl missing that are in the richmond county population. Columbus is growing because of soldiers. Coming to ft. benning not people who would have otherwise move there. Nobody from augusta, atlanta, or savannah, gets real excited. When their military bases add residents because thats nothing big to them. Augusta is getting 2 10 story condos this year. Its construction going on right now. Along with 2 hilton hotels, and a three story office-mix used building. The train depot is being turned into a starbucks, kinkos, and a resturant. The whites building is being turned into 80 condos right now in downtown augusta. No other city in ga except for atlanta has this much construction planned for their downtown this yr and next. Augusta is going to leave macon, savannah, and columbus behind.

Augusta mall has coach, pf changs, williams and sonoma, coldwater creek, Sketchers, Aerie, banana republic,The Buckle and Hollister. The Walking Co., J. Jill, Mcalister's Deli, The Chop House and many others. None of these stores in augusta mall are at macon's, savannah, or columbus malls. The only malls in georgia who have these stores are in atlanta. Augusta and Atlanta are the only cities in GA with this selection.

Its a pattern in GA atlanta gets it first. And augusta gets it second.

Atlanta & Augusta has costco and earthfare. Savannah, macon, columbus, athens, or any other city in ga no

Augusta & Atlanta has a kroc center. Columbus, savannah, macon no

Atlanta, Augusta has coach, pf changs, and jared's fine jewelry. Savannah, macon, columbus no

Atlanta, Augusta has aldo, white house/ black market, buckle, hollister. Macon, savannah, columbus no

There is only one big city in ga atlanta. And only 1 city in the process to be one. Atlanta and augusta

Columbus is expected to be Georgia's economic star over the next five years, one of the state's top economists said Friday. Dramatic growth at Fort Benning, Aflac's campus expansion and a hot construction industry will be the engine driving growth in Columbus. Overall, 3,600 jobs will be created locally this year, with as many as 18,000 materializing through 2010. According to Jeff Humphreys, director of the University of Georgia's Selif Center for Economic Growth, he said, "This year's projected 3 percent employment growth rate will make Columbus the hottest job performer out of all 14 of Georgia's major metro areas, including Atlanta". "The Columbus economy will shift from first gear, where it is right now, into second or third gear this year, and then upward from there." Humphreys' predictions came Friday during the Columbus Regional Bi-State Economic Outlook luncheon at the Columbus Convention & Trade Center. The event, which attracted more than 300 business and community leaders, is held annually by UGA's Terry College of Business.

Ft. Benning:

The repositioning of troops and civilian employees should boost Fort Benning's permanent work force by 8,800 over the next four years. The installation, famed for training infantrymen since 1917, is picking up the U.S. Armor Center and its tank training from Fort Knox, Ky. Local housing construction will be led by a $500 million, 10-year upgrade of more than 4,000 dwellings on Fort Benning, while the private sector off post is expected to add single-family homes and apartments at a fast clip to keep up with the military demand. Many of the new military and civilian workers will bring family members to the community. When all is said and done, Humphreys said Columbus could add as many as 30,000 people to its metro population. The U.S. Defense Department also is planning to funnel another $2.7 billion in construction projects to Fort Benning for its heightened mission needs and facility upgrades.

AFLAC:

The supplemental insurance firm is spending $100 million on the project, which will add 2,000 jobs over the next two years. Like Fort Benning, Aflac's injection of capital into the community will generate as many as 2,000 additional jobs, Humphreys said, with other businesses -- such as restaurants, stores and service companies -- opening or expanding to support the growth. "Not only are you going to have the largest public economic project in the state with Fort Benning, you'll have the largest private economic development project with Aflac," Humphreys said

Hospitality Industry:

The hospitality industry, meanwhile, looks to become an even bigger player in the local economy this year with the city on the verge of attracting 1 million annual visitors for the first time in its history. Last year, 965,472 people visited Columbus, according to data compiled by Columbus State University. Smith Travel Research, a tourism consulting firm, is forecasting a 6 percent increase in the city's visitation this fiscal year. That would mean an additional 58,000 visitors and put the city over 1 million. Softball and soccer tournaments, military training and reunions, corporations and traditional sightseeing tourists all contribute to that number. At the same time, construction should begin this year on six or more new hotels in the city. Possible brands include Country Inns & Suites, Holiday Inn Express, Homewood Suites by Hilton, Microtel, Ramada, Sleep Inn, Staybridge Suites and the upstart extended-stay chain Value Place.

This article was written before Kia was announced which is bringing 5,000+ jobs to the region. Also, Celebrate Alabama, which is over in Opelika, is creating an additional 5,000 jobs in the next few years. The enire Columbus region will outpace every other 2nd tier city by a long shot. This article proves that.

Kia is coming to lagrange. Celebrate alabama is in opelika. Augusta got over 3,000 jobs this year in richmond county alone. Is muscogee county getting all these jobs. I never named the jobs or developments in burke, mcduffie, aiken, or columbia county. I only named whats coming to richmond county. Look at how many jobs richmond got this year and are getting next.

No. The only jobs we are getting in Columbus the city will be the 2,000 to 2,500 at AFLAC, 150 at Cessna, 100 or so at PCI, about 100 at UPS, 300 or so at Sun Fresh Beverage, those are all I can remember. I guess that's about it if you do not consider the support and service jobs that are created when those jobs are created. I might as well admit it as much as it pains me, there are the other jobs from the two Super Wal-Marts that are scheduled to open in March. That's just in Muscogee county. Oh I forgot Fort Benning, it actually sits in three counties and two states can I count the civil servant jobs? Shall I stop or keep going? By 2010 this area will have added more than 20,000 civilian jobs, now that's a lot by anyones standards. Not all the jobs will be skilled jobs, so there will be a lot of jobs to fill. If Augusta repeats this year what it did last year it will be great for metro Augusta and the state of GA.
