Lumpkin county isn't so bad. North Georgia College and State University is located in Dahlonega, and that's a quaint little college town located in the moutains. Quite lovely, actually. Real estate is a little higher there, but it's worth it. Dawsonville is up and coming. Lots of new stuff happening there. North Georgia is beautiful and a great place to live with kids! It's not that far from Atlanta, if you need good shopping, entertainment and just a change of scenery!

First JohnDoeBoy I dont know if your reading those statistics right, how are these crimes being counted, im not neccesarily sure you can put all five of those cities on the same scale, with different population and its undefined what is Atlanta these days, in some cases Atlanta can be Chattanooga to some people. So what are the counts, are these percentages based on how many people per blank miles.
All of this comparing cities and things such as malls and air force bases is senseless and is getting out of hand in my mind. Each city is different, and if your going to post facts and things could you please have some links and things to back them up. Alot of you are making up your own statistics and thats not good for people that are looking to move to any one of Georgia's UNIQUE cities. Also there is a reason the great admininstrators of this site set up a Atlanta and Savannah subforum, and not any of these other cities you all speak of, just keep that in your mind!

JohnDoeboy has repeatedly posted exaggerations with virtually no legitimate sources to back them up..
3,000 jobs in Richmond County in one year?
certainly there would be a newspaper article to validate this...
Yes Augusta has added some new jobs... but you also have to remember that job growth in Augusta has been abysmal for 15 years...maybe its finally pulling out of the long slump... but still it's behind the state and national avgs in new job growth.
Fort Gordon is still vulnerable in a future BRAC..
most of the new job growth Augusta has seen has, as usual, been in low paying service sector jobs.
Augusta has had a diffuclt time transitioning from a manufacturing based economy to a high tech/professional based economy.
Call centers do provide paychecks... but they are not high paying professional jobs that will transform an economy.

when Augusta's population has risen above the totals from the 2000 census... then you can say it is gaining population... but since 2000, the population has decreased by over 5,000... why this concept is so difficult to understand is beyond me. And btw.. I have never said I live in suburban ATL... I used to live there.

Whats the deal with these "metropolitan area statistics"...??? Macon, Savannah, and Columbus seem to all shuffle from site to site
Macon, GA Metro
Macon, GA Metro is a Metropolitan Area that had total population of 322,549 according to the US Census.
Columbus, GA Metro
Columbus, GA Metro is a Metropolitan Area that had total population of 274,624 according to the US Census.
Savannah, GA Metro
Savannah, GA Metro is a Metropolitan Area that had total population of 293,000 according to the US Census.
according to DataPlace but of course it has showed differently on other sites.
Augusta is always ahead of the other 3 though
Augusta-Aiken, GA Metro
Augusta-Aiken, GA Metro is a Metropolitan Area that had total population of 477,441 according to the US Census.

Thats the 2000 estimate. Augusta has over 530,000 easily because its 2008. You have to get your info from the official u.s. census site. Three counties in augusta make up over 400,000 by theirself. But like i said earlier and JLA posted. It was 523,249 as of 2006. We have burke, edgefield, and mcduffie to. But just like you said augusta is always ahead
Richmond 194,398
Richmond County, Georgia - Population Finder - American FactFinder=
columbia 106,887
Columbia County, Georgia - Population Finder - American FactFinder=
Aiken 151,800
Aiken County, South Carolina - Population Finder - American FactFinder=
Anybody moving to georgia in the future. Come to augusta and drive down I-20, 520, and look around. And see for yourself. When you see all the construction going on. You decide. What city besides atlanta in georgia is growing the most.

Where is your facts that augusta is behind the state avg. Are you crazy? ADP facility will bring 1000 new jobs by itself. Then is has a tempoary office that already has 120 people. That will be 1,120. For the people moving to georiga. When you drive to augusta to visit or check it out. Come back and post. And tell me if im wrong about. All the amount of construction going on.
Why don't you argue about who has the highest income outside of atlanta. Who has the most shopping. If there are some many good jobs in macon, savannah, and columbus. Why is metro augusta income higher. Only atlanta has more rich people than augusta in georgia. Who pays this people in augusta. Where do they go to work. Do they drive to columbus, macon, savannah, or atlanta everyday. I think not!
When it comes to income Augusta has the highest median income outside of Atlanta metro in georgia.

Its hard to believe any of this stuff with many of these people not posting realiable sources, or any source at all. As you can see JohnDoeBoy never found those statistics about the crime that I asked for he only gave us stats from Augusta.

Maybe its because johndoeboy has a life. And doesn't spend all his time on the computer. People do have to go to work you know. But Mayor of macon earlier you said. You can't even compare the cities because the have diffrent populations. What does that have to do with it. So know we should believe that you know what you are talking about. It doesn't matter augusta is still the safest. And macon is 4th in violent crime. and 5th in property crime. Which means it is the most dangerous city of them all. No wonder why macon only has 95,000 people in the city limits. It obviously has a negative image, and people are afraid to live there
What is so hard for you to understand
Violent Crime
1. Augusta 392.3 (less likely to be shot, rape, or robbed)
2. Columbus 422.1
3. Atlanta 492
4. Macon 501.6
5. Savannah 582.9
Property Crimes
1. Atlanta 4115.2 (less likely to have property crime)
2. Augusta 4518.5
3. Savannah 4737.7
4. Columbus 5468.6
5. Macon 6180.7 (the most likely to have property crime)
Table 6 - Crime in the United States 2005
Are you happy now.
