Moving from Florida
I am brand new to this website. I am extremely "computer stupid", so please tell me if I am supposed to be posting my questions somewhere else other than this "quick reply" box. Anyway, we currently live in Florida but are considering moving to Georgia. My husband and I have 2 children, 9 and 6. We are looking for a safe town, good schools, low crime, and good doctors/specialists close by. We visited Peachtree City in November of 2007. It was absolutely beautiful and we loved the concept of a "golf cart" community. The town was probably not built up as much as we would like, though. Some friends of ours are considering moving to the Alpharetta area and we would like to know what people think of that area? We heard it is a place to consider. Can someone give me some feedback?

If you've never heard of Augusta referred to as "Disgusta" then you must have been living under a rock.. it's had that nickname for atleast 60 years

And don't forget the opening line of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band song "American Dream".. :
:"...it's that I'm not interested you see, Augusta, Georgia is just no place to be."

The Augusta Chronicle newspaper even did a whole series of articles about Augusta's unsavory nickname, the articles were even titled "Turning away from Disgusta." Go google it and you will find it easily.

Did you read what I said. I said I have never heard of anyone calling it that meaning, I know no one who has called it that. And I also said that there are plenty of people who don't like Augusta, same thing for every single city in the world. If you are going to tell people not to move somewhere or recommend a place..have some facts and let them make a decision.

Alpharetta is great but it is expensive and overcrowded.I think the southern suburbs are underrated.Look at the booming area of Camp Creek in South Fulton, and Eagles Landing in Henry county.Good schools low crime.Lots of shopping and restaurants.

I have a question for DISGUSTA sucks. Do you currently live in Augusta? If not, how long has it been since you have or been to the area? As with any city it has its problems. But I can tell you it is changing and for the better I might add. Something must have really horrible happened to you for you to constantly bad mouthing Augusta. I have been to a lot of places and nothing compares to the locale of Augusta for the most part. The weather, the short drive to the mountains or the beach, Clarks Hill lake, lost cost of living compaired to other cities and really nice people.

The great locale of Augusta?? I don't consider a 3 hour drive to the Beach and a four hour drive to the mountains to be short drives..
"Augusta, GA.. we're only a 3 or 4 hours drive from someplace you'd rather be."

Faith--
You can start your own thread. I suggest posting a thread in the Atlanta forum. List your preferences --include price range. If you are considering metro Atlanta it is best to live near the place(s) of employment. If you choose Alpharetta/NW Atlanta and have to drive to the airport/Peachtree City you will not have much free time.
