Villavillacola1111: I respect people's way of life in the south and I'm not going to go down there and try to change people or whine about the south...just because it's "different".

I grew up in southeast GA, and my mother is from Malden, MA. The only difference is that we southerners are more known for our hospitality. We don't even mind a "yankee" coming for a visit. lol Good luck at SCAD. They're a good school. I love Savannah, especially Riverstreet during festivals and the Old Savannah Squares. It's a beautiful old city. Keep an eye on the Savannah paper for where the crime is occurring when you move down. The only thing you're really going to have to get used to is the bugs and the heat.

Yes, you are right . I sort of didn't think about that part when I was writing. Every time I go to Georgia I feel welcome, even when i'm walking down a street I get about 78643764 waves and smiles from people that I don't even know.
After re-reading what I said, I feel sort of stupid for saying that my main concern about Savannah is the racism...because racism in everywhere.
Thank-you for wishing me luck PaisleyChic and thanks for the advice, i'll read the papers every morning then.
By the way, may I ask what kind of bugs are down there? I think the only bugs that I remember seeing are mosquitoes and flies.

Name a bug and we probably have them. Gnats, wasps, bees, mosquitoes, sand flies, house flies, beetles, butterflies, dragonflies - The last 2 being the only 2 I'm fond of. lol -- Oh, and fire ants are horrible here, though probably more so where I live than in Savannah because I'm rural.
I was born and raised here in GA, but I'm not racist. There are too many ethnic groups here to try to keep that idiocy alive. You will meet some who are, no doubt. Racism is, unfortunately, a fact of life. If we all stripped our top layer of skin off, we would be the same underneath, and all of us, no matter what our ethnicity, have the same concerns, so I don't see the point.

Don't forget the Palmetto Bugs (flying cockroaches) in the middle and southern part of the state.

LOL, eastman is a rural town as well, so I know exactly what you're talking about when it comes to fire ants. You know how there's usually some sort of dirt or sand where their home is at...well, I stepped in that one time while getting off of a trampoline and my whole right foot was covered with about atleast 100-200 fire ants, i'm not joking....it hurt like hell; haha.
But anyway, I love drangonflies and haven't seen any for awhile, so that's cool.
Well, as long as there isn't any taranchulas in Savannah, then I will be fine.
You're right, we are all have lungs, ears, eyes, heart, etc. I get what you're saying. It's actually funny how some people I know from the north say that everyone who was born and raised in the south will most likely be racist. It took me awhile to realise that they are being hypocrites, because they think that all southerners are racist...that's generalizing, which means that it was racist of them to think that. (I hope that made sense)
I think the real problem with Savannah is the high poverty...I wish that there could be more job opportunities for people there because maybe there will be a little less crime there if that happened.
Crap! I just got done reading "thedudewiththeplan" comment. Thanks for the warning!

Well, I hope there's locus bugs there....I like climbing trees and listening to them.
Oh, and praying mantis! They're the best!
...Oh, I'm getting a little carried away with this.

The problem I have with the fire ants is they get in my house. I've declared all out war on the little buggers since they found my pantry last summer.
There aren't any tarantulas that I know of, but every spider in GA is poisonous, and we do have our fair share - black widow, brown recluse, garden spiders and ewww - I get the creeps just talking about them, so that's all you're getting.
There are praying mantis, walking sticks, locusts, cicadas, grasshoppers, crickets, and a lot of other little bugs.
Poverty is high in Savannah, but it's like any other city that has pockets of it. I never go to Savannah unless I have a friend with me, but sometimes, even that is not enough, so you just have to be aware of your surroundings.

I hope that you win the battle, although it will be a hard one.
...I hate spiders with a passion ...I think the only spiders I can deal with are Daddy Long Legs because you can barely see them and they are harmless as well. Brown Recluse...geez, those things are hardcore.
On an average, how often do you see spiders in buildings and houses in Georgia?
...you have no idea how much I hate those things, I would rather see a garden snake then a garden spider.
Okay thanks for the advice. I think that I have enough street smarts and common sense to survive in Savannah. I won't walk around with things that scream "hey I have money, you should rob me".

I see a few more spiders than those in the city - That's one of the "joys" of living out in the country. Nothing like sitting down to watch a little tv and seeing one crawling across the sofa straight at you! I don't think I have ever seen any spiders in Savannah - including Daddy Long Legs, but that doesn't mean there aren't any! As for snakes, I don't think you'll have to worry much about them, unless you go on one of the wildlife tours.
My favorite spot for lunch in Savannah is eating outside under the oak trees in the old Savannah Squares. You're more likely to see feral cats, squirrels, and birds than you are to see any creepy critters.

The worst place to live is Macon County. This includes Montezuma, Oglethorpe, Ideal, and Marshallville. these are all small towns and a very rural, farming county. unfortunately, this is where i currently live. the schools are horrible and absolutely nothing to do. i like perry, but i've never lived there so i can't say so for sure.

There's not a thing wrong with farm country - food supply, ya know. I've been to Perry - It's just another old, small town, and the only thing it's got going for it is the state fair.
