As for snakes, I don't think you'll have to worry much about them, unless you go on one of the wildlife tours.
My favorite spot for lunch in Savannah is eating outside under the oak trees in the old Savannah Squares. You're more likely to see feral cats, squirrels, and birds than you are to see any creepy critters.

Okay thanks, you been a big help!
I'm actually not afraid of snakes, it's weird how i'm super scared of spiders because they're a lot smaller than snakes...weird.
Haha, I thought that the Savannah Squares are dangerous these days...or maybe i'm getting it mixed up with Forth Park (I think that I spelled it wrong).

...you might be right, I was looking at the top 100 dangerous cities and that's including counties in the US (because I was bored), and Macon is now listed as being more dangerous than Atlanta.
Hmm, but there's nothing wrong with farms...how else are we suppose to get our fruits and vegs...especially peaches! yum! But I will agree with you on the school system, but believe me when I saw this: there are far more worst schools in different states. I mean, just look up the school systems in East St. Louis, Missouri...yikes!!!!

Don't go into Savannah after dark - Just kidding! I've heard that for years. I wouldn't hang out on the squares at night when the scum starts prowling the streets, but during the day they're pretty safe. The only square I wouldn't go to day or night is the one west of City Market. That's where the homeless and other bums hang out.
Did you mean Forsyth Park? That's still in the historic district, so the tourist foot traffic and tours keeps it safe, and of course, the students from SCAD use it. South of the park until you get across DeRenne is iffy. Avoid 37th street if you can. It's been known as a high crime street for drugs for years. Movie cinemas, and major shopping areas are on Abercorn several miles below the poorer section of Savannah.
Savannah is planning on building 11 new police stations, and they now have police on horseback as well as footpatrol which they never had before, so you should be safe as long as you use your street smarts.

Yes, I meant Forsyth Park, haha.
Okay, I will avoid 37th street and west of City Market at all time then, thanks.
...I guess there's not a homeless shelter near Savannah huh?
Eleven more stations?!?! That is good news.
I now feel a lot more comfortable about walking around the city with police on horse and on foot.
Thanks for the info!
I have another question. The last time I went to Savannah was when I was about 9 or 10 years of age, sort of a long time ago.
Do you see a lot of cute local guys down there....I couldn't resist, I had to ask!

It really depends on what your type is. If you like guys with a good head on their shoulders then... . You ever hear of the saying "all of the good ones are taken"...well, it's sort of true.
I was reading some previous post and you said that you are going to SCAD. My friend goes there and she told me that most of the guys there are immature and snotty.
p.s-By the way...you're right about Macon being more dangerous than Atlanta.

Don't get me wrong, the people there are nice and welcoming for the most part, but that small town is still segregated. The white and black folks will work and play together, but they will not live together. There are some good black neighborhoods and then some bad ones. There are some good white neighborhoods and then there are some bad ones. From my point of view, the crime there comes from both white and black folks...but nothing "major". Overall, I feel safe walking around by myself. Another reason why I don't go down there is becase it is a very boring typical small town...the most exciting thing they got down there is some cotton fields and a movie theater. It's not a bad town...if you want to go some place to concentrate on writing a book or a movie script (it's not for people who have a party lifestyle or for young people in general). But it has a lot of potential to become better and to grow.
My parents own a house in Bonaire in Cobb County, that's my favorite place to be in Georgia. It's near a milatary base so you have residents there from out of state and from different countries. The house is in a multi-cultural neighborhood and I love it. Whites, blacks, latinos, jewish people, europeon folks, etc living together. It's funny how some people say that "folks from different race and religion can't live together", but that is not true....we get along just fine and the neighborhood is not a war zone. Every time I go to Bonaire, they always have something new. So that town is really growing! It's not that conservative compare to other towns in Georgia, I love it.
I've been to Atlanta a couple of times over the years and it has changed a lot. Personally, I wouldn't live there...but it's not the worst city in the US.
Same with Savannah, it has changed a lot as well. I'm actually going to go to SCAD this year and I am a bit anxious. I've never lived in the south...just visit there for about 2-3 months every other year. I guess you can say that i'm a "yankee", but not the type of yankee that expects everything and everyone to have the same view as the north. I respect people's way of life in the south and I'm not going to go down there and try to change people or whine about the south...just because it's "different".
I think my main concern about Savannah is really the pollution and the racism. I love being around a multi cultural setting and i'm not too quick to generalize people...but I have a feeling that it won't be like that in Savannah. I'm not saying that there isn't any racism in the north, i'm not that naive! But in the north, it's more in the closet.
I'm not too concern about the crime, because crime is in every city, although that's something that I have to get use to. But I will try to make the best of it. I am very young but also mature, have manners and was taught not to blame anyone for my problems and to work hard. So maybe I'll be fine down there...hopefully.

There are praying mantis, walking sticks, locusts, cicadas, grasshoppers, crickets, and a lot of other little bugs.
Poverty is high in Savannah, but it's like any other city that has pockets of it. I never go to Savannah unless I have a friend with me, but sometimes, even that is not enough, so you just have to be aware of your surroundings.

pore gasoline on a ant pile or smoke them out. im in central georgia i've had that problem before it works gasoline works the best
