Hmm, but there's nothing wrong with farms...how else are we suppose to get our fruits and vegs...especially peaches! yum! But I will agree with you on the school system, but believe me when I saw this: there are far more worst schools in different states. I mean, just look up the school systems in East St. Louis, Missouri...yikes!!!!

Man, I'm starting to believe more false info is spreading than reality on here.

Atlanta is clearly still listed as more dangerous than Macon.

you're so out of it on this one that it's funny. That person you replied to with the comment I have quoted above...wasnt even talkin about The City of Macon, Georgia. They said Macon County.

Macon County and The city of Macon are not the same.

Macon county is like 45 mins from Macon.

Macon is in Bibb County

Montezuma, Marshallville, Oglethorpe, etc. are in Macon County.

As for the 5 best and 5 worst, I really cant stand boring, rural places, and I cant stand poverty.
So the bottom 5 would be any one of the random "ghetto" towns in some of the rural counties.....which we have several to choose from in middle and south georgia. (Talbotton, Jeffersonville, Irwinton, Dawson, etc.)...too many to name

the top 5 would be

1. Any non-ghetto area in Atlanta or its suburbs
2. Any non-ghetto area in Savannah or its suburbs
3. Any non-ghetto area in Augusta or its suburbs
4. Any non-ghetto area in Macon or its suburbs
5. Any non-ghetto area in Athens or its suburbs
.................................................. ..............................
6. Any non-ghetto area in Columbus or its suburbs

(I have columbus at 6 because for a city of its population it doesnt have hardly anything for young people to get into AT ALL......but still better than these other GA country towns with nothing to do, IMO.)

because these area the largest metros....so generally there's more to get into....so living in any nice part of any one of them is better than anywhere else in GA to me.

Sharron,

I, too, am a CT "transplant" who moved to GA about 10 years ago and have been living in the NE GA mtns (Hiawassee) now for 2 years. You are right about it looking a bit like some parts of CT. I could not imagine living without the trees and mountains around me!! You mentioned there are many other transplants in this area also from Connecticut. Where are they? So far I've only met one other.

To me the 5 worst places in GA for you are:
5. in Atlanta,
4. just south or just north of Atlanta
3. just east or west of Atlanta
2. any town south of Atlanta (Heat and humidity)
1. the coast of Georgia

To my way of thinking, the 5 best places for you are all small towns in the Northeast Georgia mountains. We have many transplants from CT who say they feel like they are home here because we have mountains and change of seasons WITHOUT THE EXTREMES! They love our change of seasons, friendly people, great schools and low crime rate. We get an average of 3 inches of snow per year, and nature still has a home here.

5. Ellijay,Georgia
4. Blue Ridge, Georgia
3. Hiawassee, Georgia
2. Young Harris, Georgia
1. Blairsville, Georgia

You say there is nothing to do for young people in Columbus. Are you even old enough to go out? My guess is no.

for 18 and up.....yep, and you know it's true. There's nothing special for college aged people to do in Columbus, even most people staying there will tell you that. It's not much variety to choose from, or either boring places.

I agree that Columbus doesn't offer much, especially for teens or people in their twenties (like me.) I grew up in the area and it was really boring. My husband and I are moving away soon because the thought of spending my thirties here too is depressing, and I would like to have more to offer my children as they grow older.

Most of the cities in Georgia other than Atlanta, Savannah, and Athens can be described this way.

Actually it is not true. Obviously, you are not over 21. I agree, there is not much for people younger than 21. But in reality, how much is there to do anywhere for people under 21? If you were of age to go downtown or to other bars around the city, you would have a different opinion, I promise.
