I'd say you would like Atlanta.. it has a sizeable black middle class.. lots of professionals, good singles scene.

Dallas, Hiram, Douglasville, Peachtree city, Acworth, Marietta, and Alpharetta are all great places to live lived in all of them and loved it. Not a lot of crime and all the people were nice and welcoming. I think Hiram and Douglasville were the best out of those.

About all the places of best and worst that people are posting, let not forget that you have pockets in every community and city. I happen to live a pocket where real estate is high in newton county, it is so quiet and nothing going on until it sometimes scare me. So don't forget the pockets, you may be surprised.

This depend on the pocket of areas that you want to live, then it great. I happen to live in Covington, GA in a high real estate pocket, Crime is low because the police protect their high tax payers, so they're visable most of the time. So rift rats stay clear.

Don't believe what someone post. Go there, visit, talk to locals. I live in newton county in a new home. community of about 60 new homes, one way in and one way out. 3 years and nothing, not so much as a smashing an ant.

Number 1: Definately Gainesville, Ga. Hall county would be the best bet-Great schools Gainesville high school is amazing your kids would love it i know i went there and also North hall high school, if you would like to put you kids in a private school theres always lakeview and Riverside Millitary academy. Lake Lanier pretty much makes hall county one of the best places to live in Georgia. North Ga is the best place to live in GA hands down. Go live in Gainesville you wont regret it.

Whenever I drive thru Gainesville, it reminds me of Tijuana. Gainesville still has its nice area just north of downtown, but overall the city has lost a bit of its polish.
No. Georgia towns like Cleveland, Dawsonville, Toccoa, Blue Ridge and Ellijay are far better IMHO.

Okay, so what I would NOT recommend: I was born in Albany and lived in Tifton for several years as a child (both are in south Georgia). Tifton is incredibly boring...I lived there ages 4 - 9 so I was there at the perfect time. My friends and I had plenty of woods around to explore and play in, but those same friends complained to me ALL the time what a crappy town it was as they got into their teen's and literally had nothing fun to do. There is no mall, the closest one is in Albany. Albany has taken a turn for the worse over the years - it's definitely no place I'd ever move back to.
I would not recommend Columbus either. I currently live there and would recommend you check out the thread "Columbus, Ga" on this page (7 pages long currently). High crime and unemployment rates, otherwise, a very boring place for anyone over the age of 12....just a lot of restaurants and churches, oh, and hotels, a few movie theaters. But that's it.
I'd recommend you check out the coast of Georgia... Savannah & Jekyll Island. I've only heard good things about that area, and have been there myself. There are also some cities outside of Atlanta that are really nice, like Canton and Alpharetta. My parents are big fans of North GA since you get slightly cooler weather and a much prettier view. I've visited Helen, GA and loved the area. It was beautiful, very friendly, with lots of outdoorsy activities. We went to Anna Ruby Falls on our trip up there...simply gorgeous.
Good luck in your search!
