Smile Albany is ok

We moved to Albany in 1994 when I graduated from college and took the first banking job that I could find. I am not from there and the wife and I were just getting started. It was not that bad, cheap housing, friendly people and good small town living with decent amenities. It is very isolated and a good 30-45 minutes drive off the main interstate I-75. The company transferred me to Valdosta in 1996 and I would definitely recommend moving there over Albany. Though Albany is bigger, I found Valdosta to be more accessible (right off I-75) which tended to make it more "hip."

As always, I'm glad to hear of anyone who has had a positive experience with Albany. It makes it easier to bear the thought that we might not be able to scrape this steaming pile of a town off our shoes as fast as we'd like.

Default My Town

I am not sure what you are looking for but I live in Ware County. The city is Waycross. I do not live in the city I live in the country. Ware county is a peacefyl place and though it has an Industrial Park and several companies including the railroad for jobs, it is safe and the people are friendly. If you have kids, we havw a YMCA and a Rec. Department that can keep the kids busy all thru the year if you like. I have two teenage boys that are heavy into sports at the Ware County High School. We are under new administration and change can cause stress for some. But I love the schools I am not able to work full time as a teacher due to health problems, but I substitute alot. I love it. Our crime rate, thank God is almost nonexistant. I believe it is because a huge industry has not moved in. We have a good Mall and a Big 24/7 WalMart. Anyway, maybe this will help. Right now Millwood Plantations are selling lots out here where we live. It would be worth your while to check into it!! Have a wonderful summer, kandy

Absolutely hysterical!

Try the Lake Blackshear area which is 20 miles north if you can handle that commute. Lake Blackshear Plantation is a golf community, tons of homes on the lake and many lower priced homes on smaller acreages. Also, Leesburg is becoming a bedroom community to Albany, cute little nothing of a town, but if you're working in Albany, you can sleep in peace northward. Good luck.

I'd still recommend weapons training and a concealed-carry permit, even in Leesburg.

If you want to live in an area of low crime, low housing costs, and lots of outdoor activities, consider Catoosa County in NW Georgia...in the metro Chattanooga, Tn area. Fresh air and friendly people in Fort Oglethorpe,Ga, Ringgold, Ga, and Chattanooga area.
Moved here (Ringgold, Ga) from Tampa Bay and we love it. Plenty to do with Hiking(Lookout Mountain), Rock City, hang-gliding, caves (Ruby Falls), riverboats, Incline Railway, IMAX theatre, a Huge Waterfront (Tennessee River) Aquarium (puts the Tampa, Fl aquarium to shame), Bluff Art District, Walnut street Bridge (pedestrian bridge over Tn River), Trail of Tears exposition, Science museum, Univ of Tenn @ Chattanooga, Semi Pro baseball, Warehouse Row, Hamilton Place Mall, and one more time....Lots of Friendly People. Light traffic, good shopping, beautiful mountain views....a nice modern (but small) airport, I-75, I-24, and I-59 all accessible. White water rafting 1.5-2.0 hrs away.

Been to that area, and this poster is 100% right. BEAUTIFUL. Total contrast to southern Georgia.

Romeo...for all the reasons you listed above is exactly why we will be pulling in with our moving van in just 2 short weeks. We absolutely cannot wait. I have heard so many folks say how wonderful the TN Aquarium is. That will be one of our first outings, followed closely by biking thru Chickamauga Battlefield Park. We are very excited to be making the extreme NW GA corner our home!!!!
