Albany does have some of the worst drivers I've ever seen in my life, and by that I am referring to a local habit of DRIVING ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD. That is not an exaggeration.

Not sure why some people thing South Georgia has nothing to offer. However if you need more proof I got it.
Valdosta, a South Georgia city, has just been ranked #1 in the whole state of Georgia in Retail Pull. Its retail sales topped $2.28 Billion dollars!!! It went from #4 to #1 in one year!!!!! Again that is a South Georgia City who is Ranked #1 in the State, that means ahead of Atlanta, in Retail Pull!!
Valdosta’s ranking in the regional pull factor of Georgia made from its regional pull of fourth in the state to first in the state with a pull factor of 2.02. The fact that Valdosta is now number one in the state with a pull factor of 2.02 means that for every dollar a resident of Lowndes County spends within the county, someone else from all over the state spends another $1.02.
“Our total retail economy rose from 1.81 billion to 2.28 billion. That is a 26 percent increase in our retail economy in one year. I am so proud to announce this tonight and thank each member of Council, administration and our citizens for each day that we have worked so hard to truly define us as the hub of South Georgia and No. 1 in the state in retail pull,” said Fretti.

Thomasville is nice...actually quite a livable small town..very nice downtown..but Albany? It actually tops Disgusta in overall suckiness. Albany is just awful. I spent 3 mos there 7 years ago and could not wait to leave! And for such a small city.. the crime is just unbelievably high.

It's true. Albany is SW Georgia's leading producer of crappiness.

Ihave read many retirement magazines and books regarding retiring to the south.
One magazine did a lengthy article on Thomasville and interviewed people who had moved there. The magazine rated Thomasville favorably, but listed as a drawback the long time it will take outsiders to feel accepted in comparison to the many other towns they had recommended in the south.
Seems like there is validity in the posters who don't like SW Georgia.

Wow! I read all posts! Albany is experiencing some economic problems right now. I must agree that the thinking is a not as forward as I would like, but this is the South and people are hesitant and very resistant to change. I am a transer in by marriage and I make the best of it. There are some good people here and there are some bad, just like anywhere else/ My problem is that the job opportunities do not exist for those with advanced degrees. I just received my doctorate in education and I now know that I must consider relocating in order to get a great job. The people are simple people, but you have to love them, because they are a part of this world just like yoou and me.

You may or may not like Southwest Georgia, but they have done something that the rest of the state has never done. They elected a president of the USA who is from there. You cannot boast that and many 1000's of tourist come each year to see Jimmy. Come the last Saturday in September and ride the Shortline train from Cordele and Mr. Jimmy will sign one of his books for you. An experience you will not soon forget. But yes, you have to be from south Georgia to understand south Georgia. I have lived other places and I do not care to be anywhere else. Cheap to live and many wonderful things to do that does not cost an arm or leg.

Oh and Mattattack, did you get fired from your job or did you doubledip at the Marine Base. You sound like one. Not much good for anything else but government work. Did not fit in either. The women probably could not stand you either. It usually boils down to money or women. PS Albany has been noted that there are more millionaires per capita than any place in the nation.
