UHHH WHEN IS THE LAST TIME YOU'VE ATTENDED A CITY PLANNING MEETING OR PUBLIC HEARING? It takes all I have not to want to choke or dissolve the entire committee. (Wish I had the power to) Because they do so much gotdamn talking and so little gets done that I almost wanted to tell them to cram all of that ****, because the older people are so afraid for the city to look the part.
Hun... Columbus has been this way for CENTURIES. The rich people who owned every piece of land in Muscogee Co, literally IMPEDED the plans for development because they wanted to keep the slow quality of life. It'll be a long time before Columbus's "old money generations" die out. In addition to that, developers are having a hard time getting building permits for intown development that's why the city has no skyline or urban characteristics that would other wise better compare it to Macon... (Augusta is like Columbus... multiplied by 2). All spread out with few dense urban areas.
Don't get me wrong... I used to work for MidTown Inc, and saw EVERYTHING they have planned for Columbus. It was so beautiful, I began to get excited... that is... until I realized it's a WHOLE lot of talking... with little or nothing getting done to promote these developments. One of the 10 story condos (which looked SOOO 1981), fell through the cracks because of an issue of having the funds to replace some government housing projects along the Alabama side of the river.
Columbus is a city thriving with ideas... in which VERY few get the "thumbs up" for development.
