Men's Health Magazine has ranked Columbus #4 among U.S. metros as one of the best cities in the country to raise a family. This is great news for Columbus.

According to local dept of labor officials unemployment has surpassed 6 percent and climbing.....lots of minimum wage and part time jobs available
I spoke to city tax officials yesterday at lunch who stated they are backlogged 3 years in bankruptcies and foreclosures and sadly over half were military and see no light ahead as well as property taxes declining sharply due to home equity shrinkage. I guess that recent economic report on Columbus was wrong once again. |

I'm sure Mr. Bucket is not from Columbus. Anyhow, I am from Harris County, GA and I will help you guys with the arrogant, combative crew from Macon and Augusta who think that their antiquated cities compare to the great Columbus, GA.

ROFL....
Thanks for the greetings folks but it will take much more than positive remarks and thinking to turn Columbus around... When you are done dreaming and are ready to deal with reality like many other residents you can chime in. Most everything you have claimed about columbus the last few months has yet to materialize and yet you offer only excuses and nothing else. Have a great day everyone....and enjoy riverfest/pig jig!! Oh I forgot they don't do that anymore either due to poor attendance. |

Well I can certainly understand why Macon and Disgusta have inferiority complexes...

Quality of life is important. Yes there are minimum wage jobs, yes we have bankruptcy's ( you cannot stop people from making bad decisions) as for the Solider's be careful whatyou believe, except for the trainees in "Boot Camp" the aveerage total income of a Solider is over $46,000 annually. The new troops and defense employees coming in the next 2 to 3 years will average over $75,000 annually. The other business like AFLAC, SYNOVUS, TSYS all pay well above the minimum and all have been included in the Top Places to work in the Country by Fordes. SYNOVES and TYS were number 1, AFLAC was a respectable number 5 and 2. If you read too many Blogs and Articles without looking at the source of the information you will never understand the true picture of anyting. With Six Universities with campus and others occupying satellite office, and three others within 45 minutes including Auburn we have the eduction portion of life. Sports, we are not large enogh for a top pro team, but Columbus Won the Little League Word series two years ago and in 1999 Phenix City, which we share a long common border won the Little League National World Series. With excellent medical and tremendous cultural venues Columbus and the Chattachoochee Valley has all the qualities needed. Yes there are problems, everyplace has them, but this community works through the issues and is going from Good to Great.

Good morning everyone! I am coming back to Columbus after living in Albany for the past 2 years as a high school history teacher. I didn't realize that some things stay the same since living in Albany, and am soooo GLAD that I am coming back to C-Town.... Besides the wonderful shopping that I see has developed in Columbus Park Crossing, what other changes have occurred? I will be teaching in Talbot County.

If you are a young, outgoing adult. What makes Columbus so much better than Augusta, Macon, and Savannah?
Before you answer that, tell me something that actually matters. I cant go shopping for clothes or out for weekend entertainment because Aflac is there and coca cola was made there lol. Besides Savannah and Athens, I dont see how the Columbus, Macon and Augusta areas can say they offer something that absolutely puts 1 of the other areas to shame. The only difference I see is that Columbus seems more laid back and country. Macon and Augusta seem more bustling. Personally, I dont care for laid back, which is why I put Columbus last. Not that its so bad and terrible, but just for that little reason, it's still alright though. To sum it up, there really isnt anything THAT horrible or THAT good about Augusta,Macon and Columbus. Its not so much about an inferiority complex with Macon and Augusta, Its with the "superior Columbus" vibe. Columbus does not have the diversity of entertainment of Athens, or the coastal/tourist environment of savannah (Things I would envy). I mean come on you have this guy talking about coca cola, like people really are going around thinking about stuff like that in jealousy. As far as makin the city sooo much better than Augusta and Macon, the things Columbus people are naming arent things that really matter. Do not take this the wrong way, Its not to say Columbus is horrible, its not. It's just that it isnt anything there that makes it so much better than Macon or Augusta. |
