hey all,
i'm moving to leesburg from the atlanta area in a couple of days. according to map quest i can either take I-75 or u.s. hwy 19 all the way down. it's much shorter distance wise if i take u.s hwy 19, but what's the traffic/speed limit like on that road? does anyone know which would be a better way to go? any info would be much appreciated! |

And in a few weeks, you'll be looking for the fastest way OUT of Albany/Leesburg. Bless your heart.

Honey, I couldn't imagine anyone coming down here by choice; I've said before that if I were BURIED here, I'd dig my way up and crawl back home. God be with you.

the fastest way would be the way through Columbus....but I take 75 occasionally and it moves pretty well. Coming in the columbus way thru Dawsonville, you still have to drive through Albany to get to Leesburg. You might be able to pick up the bypass off of 82 coming into Albany.
Otherwise if you took I 75...get off at the cordele exit where you pick up hwy 300...watch your speed on hwy 300 because it does get monitored (as does the hwy coming out of Columbus and eventually turning into 82)...once you get on hwy 300 is about 30-40 minutes to Albany but then again you pick up that bypass to get over to Slappey Dr. OR there is a hwy 32 off of 300 that will take you over by Chehaw park and onto Lee County. Taking 19 out of Atlanta is excruciatingly slow...you are better to go the interstate route when getting out of the Atlanta metro area. However, you can always take the back roads into Lee county once you get out of the city. Since you are in Athens....your best way would to take the 129/441 hwy until you reach Macon and then pick up I 75 and then pick up the 300 just past Cordele. |

I dont think you will have to worry about waiting in line for starbucks....because there isnt one. Oh wait Albany does have one, but you'd have to go out fo your way. I guess you can get your gourmet coffee fix at Mcdonalds now anyway...now there could be a line waiting for that.
Dont totally discount the 19 route....it is a nice drive through small town GA...with quite a few speed pockets, no doubt. So if you are not in a hurry and dont mind driving thru the small towns, it is a nice drive and dumps you right into Lee county. Enjoy your time in Lee county and Plains GA....I am sure you will get plenty of boiled peanuts. YUM |
