My husband and I are exhausted from looking in different areas in So.Georgia. we sold most of our stuff and packed up from south FL to a little sleepy town called Hazlehurst, Jeff Davis county mainly for quiet and to be close to friends there were going to move with us. Last minute they backed out and now we are here, isolated, no friends, no way to make friends are our age and ABSOLUTELY nothing to do except go to a Wal-Mart or Dollar store. I hate it here.
We are Looking at putting in an offer on a home in SE area of Valdosta, 9 miles outside city limits but close to medical, stores and restaurants.
Any advise on internet/cable, crime? Areas to avoid? We are older and just want to be settled, tired of living outta boxes..
Please help with any and all info..thank you

I lived down the road in Baxley 1970 1982. You should have lived in that area then if you think there is nothing to do. The locals said that Baxley was centrally located, 100 miles to every thing in any direction. Anyway, I know nothing about Valdosta, but if you are going to move, consider Thomasville , its a nice small city, not too far from Tallahassee, Fla.

I think the poster is referring to the fact that you moved to the middle of nowhere, seemingly solely based on the fact that some friends were going to do the same.

As opposed to moving for a job, to be close to family, or to settle in an area you think you would enjoy.

A few questions:

Are you both working and if so what career field?
What factors are important to you? (crime, schools, home ownership, weather, infrastructure, etc.)

Bingo!

The reasoning some people use to move to a place sight unseen without work lined up first just floors me.
