Default Berrien County help PLEASE

Hello.Looking for as much info as possible as I am hoping to relocate my family this summer from Tampa Bay Fl to where my grandmother comes from in Berrien County, Georgia. Long for some peace and quiet and a more simple way of life, not to mention more affordable living.

My ?s are.............

My husband has actively been looking for work with NO luck. He is a disaster restoration specialist with a vast amount of experience in electrical maintanance and warehouse management. Does anyone have any job leads or know of any company/corp. that we can scope out to see if they meet our needs and have available positions?! Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

I would also like information on schooling. We have three school aged children and will be attending all three levels (Elementary, Middle and High School). I understand the school system in Berrien is top rated, but, would like to hear from someone with personal experience if possible.

Also, location info for good, affordable housing. Of course with my family, I want to be in a safe and secure place, need a great deal though, being home owners in Florida has cost us alot financially over the past several years, and we are looking for a nice, peaceful FRESH START.

Any and all info is much appreciated. Thanks.

ElMar

Aboutyouronly chance for decent employment is likely to be in Valdosta, which is in the county below Berrien- it's the largest city in the area, and that's not really saying much. I'd start there and see what you can find.

If you really have to live in Berrien Cnty (which is great) your husband is going to travel to work; at least a 30 minute drive one way. May not be many openings because state and gov jobs go quickly but your best bets would be Tifton, Douglas, Waycross and of course Valdosta. Check usajobs.gov and start with Moody AFB in Lanier Cnty between Nashville and Valdosta. Then branch out into the communities themselves by finding the local papers and facility websites. The really good jobs have to asked for, they are not well advertised and will require an astouding educational base, experience or knowing Jim Bob personally and getting the invite. Pulling the my Mama whose lived here her whole life might work; but, will disgust many. "Well why'd you move away?" will be a question at hand if you use it. It is a terrifically horrible daily commute (a true country mile is going to be experienced) and this job may not be available anymore; but during last year's fires, the Okefenokee Swamp was advertising for something similar to a disaster restoration specialist being needed to cover a huge territory from just north of Jacksonville, FL to Nashville, GA all in GA. I remember hearing about it on a news broadcast as being a seat that had been long neglected for the area. Best of luck!
