Union Grove Schools are about 7 miles or so north of McDonough just
off Hwy 155. The schools may be on East Lake Road. I can't remember the name. Henry county has a chamber of commerce web site surely and maybe a school system site, so try there for school names/details. For your kids to attend the Union Grove Schools you will have to live in that district. That elementary is probably East Lake elementary, but I'm not 100 percent sure. Do a google map search and see if Hwy 155 crosses East Lake Road about 7 miles directly north of McDonough. There is a little newspaper that has lots of rentals usually and there are real estate rental companies in the yellow pages there, and the chamber of commerce can probably give you a listing/mailing/maybe a visitors package by mail. Go from the intersection of Hwy 155 and East Lake Road( I think) about 3 miles north on 155 and you'll see the Millers Mill Road which goes west towards Stockbridge. Then follow 138 I think to Interstate 78 North for 1 or two exits to the Chrysler warehouse. It's on Citizens Parkway I think in Morrow. Living in the Union Grove Area you'll be able to get easily to McDonough and down to a lower interstate 75 shopping areas. Too there's a back way you can go to a large mall called Stonecrest without getting on an intersate at all. It's in Lithonia I think. The more I think about it the more I think that yes it's East Lake Elementary!!!!!!!! It's about 10 years old. The elementary is on one side of the road and the middle school and high school are just across the road, so it's convenient with kids. Georgia has a lottery that pays for college quite a bit IF the kid keeps good grades in college. My advice is to tutor kids in math, reading and writing and study skills until they know it all really well and they'll be more likely to keep the free tuition. Good state colleges/small universities around the state here, but unprepared kids flunk out in the first few semesters. Those well prepared make it academically. Algebra matters. Can find tutors if needed. |

Morrow is very busy commercial wise and i have heard from others that it used to be a happening, safe and desirable area but most residents want out. It is in Clayton county so that adds to the problem - due to schools.

Yes, the inept School Board caused the schools System to be in jeorpardy on more than one occasion. All media reports say it will lose its accreditation this September. Despite that, Clayton county schools have had a lot of issues for a while now. I live in the county, I know this firsthand and I know a few of these schools quite well. And yes, I get a upset when I see people trash Clayton all around in their posts and some of them probably never stepped foot in the county. ![]() |

The problem is the schools in Clayton County - may be the worse place in the state to send your kids to school. I recommend Henry County somewhere near McDonough. Try to move into a district so you kids will be going to one of the following high schools - Union Grove High, Luella High, or Ola High.
Morrow has some good things to offer, such as Clayton State University, Spivey Hall (World Class venue for classical music), the Federal Archives, and the Georgia Archives. I wouldn't say Morrow is "a boom town" - actually there are advantages to a place not being a boom town. Like I said in the title up topside, Morrow is a nice place. |
