Georgia pretty much sucks. But compared to Florida I guess it's slightly less crappy. But really you don't have any options, the only affordable areas close to the water are extremely high crime, all the major cities have really high crime and pretty much little job prospects other than ATL, then ATL still has the crime and the WORST traffic/congestion/sprawl imaginable. Plus just about anywhere you go you'll be an 'outsider'.

So good luck w/your move to GA!

Of the places I've been, lived, etc...

Michigan
Texas
Chicago area
Wisconsin
Oklahoma
Minnesota
New York state
pretty much all of upper New England (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont)
Massachusetts
California desert

GA is a pretty state, I love the Savannah area, but the people here and the whole hardcore neo-conservative, bible-thumper, way of life in the South just makes it not worth it!
I realize not everybody likes the cold, if I were to choose a warm climate area, Texas would definately be it. Texas has the nice climate like the South, but the people are a 100 times better, and it has 100 times the character, any 'character' the South ever had is gone and has been replaced by Wal-Martism.
