That's probably because all the gloomy, grumpy, terrible malcontents see and feel the sunshine and palm trees here and think that it can make their trouble go away. So, we have a high population of very unhappy people here. Luckily, they're moving to Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina, and even to Texas. They seem to try to avoid Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. I'm sure for good reasons. We basically have a huge mix of every kind of people here. If you can't adapt and thrive, you should go home because you'll be happier there. The choices you make in life with people will affect your well being. You've had a end results so far with the decisions you've made. Please don't blame Florida for your decisions and your family.

Well I think what might be part of the problem here is you don't search down the REAL reasons for the problem, a person has no chance of making things different next time around. In this case, its the factors of your life not the state you live in that you have issue with.

Good, but we're not the ones with the problem, just to let you know.

At this point, I believe its a lost cause.
And btw, I do disagree with the person who said Atlanta makes Jacksonville look liberal. I believe North Florida in general (From Pensacola, to Tallahassee & Jacksonville, or just anywhere north of Orlando and Tampa) is a lot like the state of Georgia outside of Atlanta.
The only difference IMO is better roads (in Florida) =)

Good Lord !! Really? How bad must the roads be in Georgia if we here in Florida have it better !!
I am still getting over the fact we don't have access roads here in Florida. Its a mess when something is wrong on the highway.

It's funny, I totally related to the OP (hoping I'm using forum-code right here). It sounded like a vent I would write not so long ago, but about Georgia, not Florida.
I've recently referred to Georgia as my prison in the bowels of h***, and totally meant it when I said it. I've blamed Georgia for my relatives being needy, self-centered, and cliquish. I've blamed Georgia for my lack of a social life, my extra 10 pounds of blubber, my financial and job situation, and the failure of my engagement. When someone annoys me on the road, I blame Georgia for having driving tests in parking lots. When my hair was all frizzed out, I blamed Georgia for being hot and humid and buggy. When my family, all from Chicago area, acted like my daughter and I only exist for their benefit, I started my whole "people down here..." speech. I would have burned a Georgia flag if the design wasn't changed every other week.
It took a while, and I had to hit bottom, but the real deal is my life is just what I've made it. I chose to move here, and if it's not what I need or want, I need to choose to move out. Sure, I wish I had more encouragement, support, friends, money, time, etc.
So do my friends in La Jolla, Beverly Hills, Chicago, Pflugerville, and Orlando.
In the middle of all the frustration it's close to impossible to see the awful truth that some have already mentioned - the only real issue anyone has is him/herself. My unsolicited advice? Try to use the venting to actually let something go, not just get you more riled up about it. Then really figure out what you want, specifically, and determine the best path to get there - no matter how long you think it'll take.
Easier said than done, I know, but think of it this way - all that anger is shortening your life, and you don't want to leave your daughter stuck with those relatives in that awful state, right?
As said earlier, IT WILL GET BETTER. IT WILL GET A LOT BETTER.

Parts of Florida are nice, I'll grant you that. Your comments are probably best suited to what one might find in Palm Beach, Broward and North Dade Counties. We used to call it; The Gaza Strip, The Golan Heights and the Wailing Walls interchangeably. Hilarious. It's the only place I've ever lived (Ohio, Texas, Georgia (2X), South Carolina, Hawaii, Tennessee) that I actually saw old people act rudely.
Amazing would be an understatement. Ever find yourself in a Publix parking lot near ANY of the Century Village Compounds and you will know EXACTLY what I mean. I was actually in a drug store across from West Boca Hospital while my first born was fighting for his life, less than 48 hours old, when I happened to cross the street to go into this store and experience the epitomy of what I am talking about.
I was in line, POLITELY waiting when a new line opened up. I was simply walking with three others on the way to the line when a Joan Rivers knockoff, complete with that Gold Lamet Top, Stretch Sweater to cover the fat a$$ of old age starts YELLING "THAT's NOT FAIR, THAT's NOT FAIR pointing her finger at me!!! Like it was MY idea to open the line and by me being 3 feet closer to the beginning of it was in someway, taking something from her. I was so damn punchy at this point (kid in hospital, up 48 hours) I just looked at her. I swear to God I felt like going back to the car, pulling the proverbial gun out and knocking this dip$hit off the planet once and for all. The world would be a better place.....anyway, I just stared as the Joan Rivers Knockoff grabs the lead in line to which the 3 of us simply rolled our eyes and sighed.....the sigh of someone who has dealt with this type of South Florida rude behavior for hears (I had been there 3 years at this point).....
Yes....I would say that THIS particular person might give the New York area a bad name.....yes....one could say that but, to be fair, Florida doesn't suck just because of this type.....
There are good things about South Florida (Note, I separate the two)...there's South Florida (3 counties, 44% of the State's population) and all the rest......
The "good things" of South Florida are:
1) Non-stop episodes of COPS and the material therein..
2) "Silicone Valley" **** never bigger, never more prevalent
3) The place where Gold Chains are still all the rage
4) Impossible to get lost, It's East-West, North South...
5) Home of the Telemarketing Scammer. Don't believe me? Go down Oakland Park Blvd and look for a group of about 50 people, all ages, smoking outside a usually Class B or C building....
6) The finger
7) Women who wear black leather mini-skirts....to work....in June......egads...
8) Acid Wash Jeans.....
9) Disease(s)
10) Great Boating, Fishing, and Diving
11) 50 something year old guys sharing an apartment
12) Camaro's, Firebirds, Mustangs and other such poorly made GM products
13) Nasty old people....embarrassing as a society overall
14) Receptionist who personify the word "rude"
15) Short Job Tenures
16) Laughable Schools/Holding Pens
17) Phony Stock Brokers (Glade Roads is known in sales circles as "The Maggot Mile"....
18) 50/50 chance of anyone actually showing up for their appointments
19) Women with "hyrdaulic" facelifts
20) Botox, Licensed and un-licensed, just depends on your budget.....
Not sure I can blame ALL of that on "them damn Yankees" but, it is, what it is......and that's 20 years of experience, not just a bad weekend travelocity deal.....I think it's a fair, fair assessment.....
But hey Bocephus, don't lay all this on the North. If those folks didn't come down here, most of you would still be sharing a trailer....who else is going to give you $50K/acre for parched clay? Good thing too as your powerhouse Governor's ability to attract businesses outside of Atlanta is woefully lacking. Well, SOMEONE has to pluck the Chickens, raise the Peanuts, drop the lumber, huh? Personally, I think it's all by design. Afterall, how do you get them back on the farm once they leave?
The best retirement plan for most in rural areas of the South is for some of that damn yankee money to come down and buy your great, great, great, great grandparents land from 1940....(I'll give you some time to think about that while you are on your ****ter reading the latest NASCAR mag).....the only place where it's not uncommon to actually meet someone's great, great grandparent....you do the math....it's better than winning the lottery.....better to be lucky than good I suppose......ANYWAY, there's always a rear-end anywhere you go.....
I guess you should be glad that the ones in Florida tend to migrate to those 3 SE counties......although I hear Martin and even St. Lucie counties are absorbing some now....sigh........
So cheer up Bocephus, Florida is a big, big state. You can hide from all them darned Yankees just like you do in Doerun.....keep making Anderson's trailers and we will all be happy......someday, who knows, you might even move up to the "big city" of Albany......
Adieu!!!

Yes, I do think people move to FL because they have had great vacation(s) there and think life will always be like that if they live there. But there are still jobs to go to, bills to pay, illness, lack of friends, etc. there also. We love the ocean, so the 12 years we lived there were wonderful in many ways. We were in So. FL in its heyday of Madonna/Sly on Ocean Drive, Pavarotti performing on the beach, etc. It was a great time. But now that we are older, we need a little move stability, but sure miss all the excitement. Where else could you get the "hanging chad" and Elian Gonzalez? So if you move to FL, be prepared for a more excitable lifestyle and don't expect your same old hometown. Sure there are lots of rude people in FL, and as many rude northeasterners move to GA, TN, the Carolina's and Texas, it'll be the same thing there. We need to have a niceness campaign in the south to try to get people from a faster paced, more reserved and unfriendly atmosphere to join in with the southern ambiance. The rude folks won't stay in So. FL as time goes by. The younger ones will try other states. Let's all start to work on them so they mend their ways, before they change our way of life!!!
