Negative/positive on Dawsonville?
We're considering relocating to Dawsonville this year. Looking for positive and/or negative thoughts, suggestions, anything about the area. Thanks much!
And yes, we're moving up from S. FL (I'm originally from a small town in Mass., husband is a S. FL native). He has family in Dawson Cty., though.
Thanks again!
Edited to say "a small town" (in Mass.) so hopefully y'all don't stereotype me as being an obnoxious Yankee.

I don't live there but I can tell you what I know.
Dawsonville is a small town just outside the Atlanta metro area. There is a factory outlet mall located there so no shortage of shopping. It's close to Lake Lanier and the North Georgia Mountains so there is plenty of outdoors stuff to do. Some people drive to the Atlanta suburbs for work but it is far so I wouldn't suggest it.
Others who live there are near there can probably tell you more. What specifically are you looking for?

Not sure how small of a town you're looking for but Dawsonville is pretty far up there. There is the outlet mall but that's about it. Not so sure about the schools either if you have kids. I know that it has been growing up that way and there are some restaurants but it's still pretty small town living.

Thanks, keep 'em coming...
Yes, we do have 1 child that will be entering Kindergarten so any info. on schools would be helpful! We visited family there a few times last year but are looking for more unbiased feedback. I'm familiar with the area (GA400, Lake Lanier, Atlanta, etc.), the climate, housing, cost of living but am mostly concerned with the schools and the issue that I tend to notice on this forum quite a bit is the fact that some of the native Georgians not being too keen on "outsiders" moving in. Most of it is completely understandable but as long as we won't be faced with any violence/hatred because we're not native, then we should be fine. I'm trying to keep this reply as politically correct as possible but want it to be known that we're not foreigners of any sort. We adapt well to change and want the best for our daughter, slower pace of life, good schools, decent jobs, nice weather, some civilization and a lower cost of living (lower than FL which isn't hard to accomplish).
Thanks so much for your replies, looking forward to hearing more on Dawsonville!

North Forsyth might be another option as the schools are good there.

I also think Forsyth might be a good option.

Opinions on the growth/development of the Cumming area....
I've heard the Cumming area is very rapidly being developed and the roads are already congested, cost of living is going up pretty quick, etc.... not sure if all that is 100% true but we're hoping to be able to live somewhere more laid back. Does anyone have any info. on these issues in the Cumming area? THANKS, y'all are very helpful.

Want to know the same thing!
Why Dawsonville has been labeled one of the 5 worst in the state to live in?
Thanks for any info.... especially on the school system in Dawson County.
