Would the UGA kids be an issue?? My cousin graduated from there and when he went there, he and all of his friends would always go to Lake Oconee over weekends or whenever they could.

Not sure if that's the norm for the majortity of the students there...

How about Brunswick? You'd be very close to Jekyll and St. Simons Island.

So are you saying it sucks ONLY because it stinks?
Did you intend on being helpful or more like you needed some validation from someone? You give no reasoning other than "it sucked".
Disagree if you must but don't get mad if someone responds negatively to YOUR negative and unhelpful post.

It's a lovely community, and due to the advances made in refining technologies over the years there hasn't been an odor there for some time.

I'm sure by now this person has found something since this post was originally started in January of 2007.. hopefully. Nevertheless, my top 10 choices for places to live under that criteria in the Peach State..

1)Flowery Branch
2)Oakwood
3)Cumming
4)Eatonton
5)St. Marys
6)Richmond Hill
7)Brunswick
8)Darien
9)La Grange
10)Cartersville

All are good towns in close proximity to a body of water.

I am thinking about moving from Jacksonville high crime rate cost of living too high for retirees. What about Waycross?

Cartersville, it is only about 19,000 people in population. It is in Bartow
County, GA and is about 70mi from Atlanta. There is nearby Lake Allatoona and beaches within a mile of the city. There is a low crime rate and it is a very good place to live. HOPE THIS HELPS

Downtown to Downtown, Cartersville is about 35 to 40 miles from Atlanta at the most.

And the crime rate being low is a perception not reality. But don't get me wrong, it is a great place to live.
