I'm not sure where the good areas are. Are there any corporate eating places? i.e. Applebees, etc. Thanks for your help!
Hi,
I don't know what price range of a house you are looking for but off Hwy. 212 is a fantastic subdivision on Lowe Road called The Oaks at Willow Lake, it sounds exactly like what you are looking for-very nice brick homes, quiet, beautiful big wooded lots, and a neighborhood small lake(more like a pond). There are a few houses for sale or you can build your own.

Also Milledgeville does have Applebees, Chili's, Golden Coral, Pickle Barrel,
Ruby Tuesday's, etc.

There are 3 nearby groceries besides Walmart-Kroger's, Piggly Wiggly, and an Ingles not far away.

Good luck, think you will love Milledgeville.

All I know about Milledgeville is that when growing up.. if someone was acting "crazy" people would say "They're going to send you to Milledgeville!" Because that is where the main hospital for the mentally ill was located. In Georgia, the term "Milledgeville" has become synonymous with "Loony Bin" or "Nut House."
I've been through Milledgeville a few times.. seems like a charming small town with a lot of history (used to be the state capital) and it is also a college town.

I have lived in Milledgeville all of my life, so I know a thing or two. One, you DO NOT want to live at The Oaks. There was a break-in / murder in that neighborhood last year. Don't get me wrong, the Oaks has great lots and nice homes (some around $300,000), but considering that incident, I would stay away. As far as the Preserve goes, it is ok, but it is still very underdeveloped. If yo buy a home in there, you'd better like it because you will never be able to resale it.

Country Club Estates, Greystone Arbor, and Dovefield are great areas with homes that are move-in ready.

Grocery stores are Kroger, Wal-Mart, Piggly-Wiggly (2 locations).

Restaurants: Chili's, Applebee's, Ruby Tuesday's, Golden Corral (yuck), Starbucks. However, the downtown historic district of Milledgeville is where good eating happens. We have a great selection of local restaurants, and a one-of-a-kind coffee shop, Blackbird. Yes, we do have a college campus, but it is not a big deal at all.

Hope this helps. =)

Exclamation Not knowing all the details about The Oaks

Hi,
Yes there was a robbery & murder at The Oaks but it was a big set up that was scoped out.
There is only l way in & l way out the neighborhood.
The people it happened to did not move.
If it was so bad, I sure they would have.

What do you love about it? What do you wish would change? Thanks.

The University moved to Atlanta around the turn of the last century. Also Mercer is no longer in Penfield.
