tell me about Milledgeville please
What are is nice to live in with homes around 250-300,000 range, no airplanes flying over head. Safe, not too far from the university..
What do you love about it? What do you wish would change? Thanks.

The land around the lake will probably be too expensive for your price range, and you will want to live downtown in an older home or on the west side of town in a newer home. You can be anywhere in Milledgeville within 10 minutes.
The great part of Milledgeville are 2 or 3 downtown restaurants, especially The Brick, with its pasta combinations. The strip up US 441 toward the mall is full of franchise restaurants and big box stores such as Lowe's and Wal Mart. The lake has two good seafood restaurants off of US 441 --Choby's and BoJo's.
What would I change? The overabundance of state institutions (prisons and mental hospitals) and the public schools.

what about flight paths?
Are there areas in milledgeville that have frequent planes flying overhead? I know there is an airport in Macon that might cause some plane noise in Milledgeville.

It won't be anything like say Oceana or Norfolk in VA, but you'll hear a few atlanta birds. But at that location, they'll be circling higher for their holding pattern. They'll come lower in altitude around newnan/henry.

You won't notice any frequent airplane noise. There is the occasional sonic boom from a military plane out of Warner Robins (although the rare earthquake at Lake Sinclair manifests itself as a boom) and you may at times be "barnstormed" by a low-flying fighter jet. Gosh, that will force a quick wardrobe change!

You have been quite helpful. There is a resume out there that might get us to Milledgeville and it is high on my please universe hear us list. So I wanted to be prepared in case it is a go. Very putting the cart before the horse but I can dream, can't I ?
Right now where we live the flight pattern is an issue, as is the refridgerator near the wall so that you cant open the door fully but just to a 90 degree angle..so I dont want either of those in the next house!

Can you tell me a little bit more about where to live in Milledgeville? How about on the NW side? Off of 212 in a neighborhood called The Preserve at Meriweather. My husband and I are looking to relocate there from FL. I just want this neighborhood to stay GOOD and not be infiltrated with people who don't keep up their homes. Any other ideas? I'm not sure where the good areas are. Are there any corporate eating places? i.e. Applebees, etc. Thanks for your help!

in the end
It looks like a great town to live in. We would have moved from Fl. ourselves but the position my husband was hoping to seek did not work out salary wise. I was so hoping to get out of Florida but now is not the time.

I think you will be fine out on the 212. The only areas I would not recommend there are in town near the college, well because it is a college (noise, those flight patterns could be appreciated during special events) or out toward Sparta unless you want to own a farm. Most everyone there keeps up their homes up well except in the inner city where most people realize that seemingly all American cities have problems with dilapidated homes. Of course, this area is not cram packed either in any direction so you might see the occasional dumpy farmhouse here and there but the folks in it are usually great, just cannot afford to do any better. I worked there for about 3 years but my home and main office were in Macon. I seriously considered the move several times but decided I needed a bigger change and moved to CA instead. Best areas will be between Hwy 22 toward Gray and Hwy 441 toward Eatonton with your pick of Hwy 212 being right in the middle. If I was to move back in that direction I would probably be a close neighbor although I would probably choose something farther out past Hwy 129 because I just enjoy the lay of the land and old growth pines & hardwoods.
