I live in neighboring Fayetteville and work in Peachtree City. Anywhere in Peachtree City (PTC) to live is fine. This is primarily an upper-middle class community and all of Fayette County is known for their excellent school system! PTC was designed so that you can get to just about any part of town on a golf cart. There are golf paths virtually everywhere. People go to the bank, to McDonald's, church, or even grocery shopping by way of their golf carts so if you decide to move here you will probably want to purchase a golf cart, too!

We have been very pleased with Peachtree City schools . Due to having a special needs child and district changes with our other child we have been associated with several of the elementary schools and my kids have recieved nothing but top notch teaching and we have had really great professional principals to deal with.
The advice to get a golf cart is a good one . They are really great to have with kids here .

We are seriously looking to move to Peachtree in the fall. My husband is a realtor how is the market moving there? What city name should one refer to when looking for employment in the newspaper? We currently live in South Florida and we are very excited with our anticipated move.

I have studied the Peachtree are very well. As for the schools S&P rates all applicable schools at about a 98 (ranking nationally). I would proceed to without fear with regard to the level of education. My primary focus was on education which is what lead me to Peachtree.

Please call it Peachtree City and not Peachtree . I just want to advise you to do that because there are so many other things and places (buildings mainly ) in the Atlanta area with the word Peachtree in it ,it can get confusing really quickly ( example Peachtree Center, Peachtree Street, Peachtree Parkway...)

Default Ptc is a great place to live!

We've lived here for 3 years and love it. The schools are great and the town is fabulous. All the neighborhoods are nice, it just depends on what you are looking for. Price, amenities, etc....

While looking in the newspaper for jobs, you can try looking under Fayette County, Peachtree City, Tyrone, Fayetteville, Newnan, or Sharpsburg. These are towns next door or close to PTC (Peachtree City). Depending on the distance/commute time, you can also consider working in Atlanta. Although the income tends to be more working in Atlanta, I personally wouldn't consider commuting into Atlanta because of the traffic. It can be a real nightmare! You also wanted to know about the market. I rent so I could be wrong about this, but right now it is more of a buyer's market. People are having trouble selling their homes, but I think this is similar across the country due to the state of our economy right now. I don't think you will be disappointed with your move to PTC.

Here in Georgia schools live and die on the strength of their CRCT scores...the higher the failure rate, the worse the school.

Fayette 2006 CRCT scores | ajc.com (http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/stories/crct2006/fayette.html - broken link)

Above is the 2006 (last year available) failure rates.

One thing you should ask about is "feeder patterns" for schools. Almost all fayette elementary schools are excellent, but schools start differentiating at the middle school level. If your elementary school feeds one of the two "thug training academies" (Fayette Middle and Flat Rock Middle), I'd look elsewhere. Fayette Middle and Flat Rock Middle have student disciplinary rates far, far above the county average (fighting, suspensions, etc).

One thing to be aware of, if you feel like rolling the dice, one of the best current feeder patterns is Crabapple-Booth Middle-McIntosh High and Kedron-Booth Middle-McIntosh High. HOWEVER, these two elementaries are on the western edge of Peachtree City and if current development in Tyrone (just west of Peachtree City) continues there is a better-than-average chance that redistricting will mean Crabapple-Flat Rock Thug Academy-Sandy Creek High and Kedron-Flat Rock Thug Academy-Sandy Creek High...you'll be trading a path to a state-top-20 high school to a decidedly average high school
