Yep, that's human nature all right. I've got some extra acreage if you're interested?

What my son was referencing is when the SHTF you don't want to be near a river valley or a power plant and you need to be self sufficient That said, I'm driving the class 8 down to pick up his household and bring them back "home" to Montana next week - a place far enough away from such things. After 28 years of living large in Atlanta area - they lost their jobs. And his son and wife moved up this week.

Wow...I have just finished reading every single post on this thread prior to mine. To say that I started getting sick to my stomach before I was even 1/4 of the way into this entire thread is putting it mildly.

I grew up in a very small rural farming community, so I thought I understood small-town mentality. I've lived in small cities and larger metro areas. I understand the frustrations and the hassles that come with each of the above. I also understand the benefits that come with each of the above.

Apparently, I have had blinders on in all of the above. I have made many trips to the North Georgia mountains and I have always loved being there. Truthfully, after reading thru all of this, I don't think I can ever go back there and have the same feelings about it that I previously had. Right now, I don't even want to go back there. I'm sure many of you locals will be pleased to hear that--esp. since my SUV currently has Florida tags on it. Of course, I'm not a Florida native, so none of those people down here like me either (tho, I've never encountered that to my face).

Someone above stated that he was a "conservative Christian". Excuse me for bringing this up--but the values you profess do not, in any way, mimic those passed on thru the Bible--not at least as the laws were given to Moses in the Ten Commandments or as Our Lord Jesus Christ taught us as he walked this earth. Your Christian values seem to differ radically from the ones which I was taught--Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself; Do Unto Others; etc.

Someone else above stated that another was being narrow-minded because he/she was putting too much stock into what only a "few" made such an uproar about. In truth, the ruckus has been made by more than a few--and the people who have tried to make a life there and have found it to be an unhospitable climate have further validated what those who are making the ruckus have stated.

It is not for me to judge anyone. However, what I have read above is a very sad commentary regarding values in the north Georgia mountains. Perhaps your statements have made your state and your people proud. I don't know. I am not from Georgia--I am from the United States of America--and my family's history can be traced back to early Colonial days in this country.

I also have to wonder if those of you who choose to be unwelcoming and unfriendly to "outsiders" have looked around you to see what happens to small towns and cities that do not welcome new blood and new business.....THEY DIE A SLOW DEATH.....My hometown has lost industry and lost population. Surviving is a real challenge. That town would welcome almost anyone. Unfortunately, my hometown does not have the beautiful scenery that many of your towns do--so there isn't much to capitalize on for them. You all don't know how lucky you really are that people are interested in you.

My apologies to the many wonderul people in the state of Georgia, but I currently do not wish to spend any more time or money in your state. Life is far too short to spend either where it is not welcomed or wanted. Oh, I forgot, you want my money, but not me. Well, my money doesn't come there without me. Sorry, for now I am boycotting Georgia--no gas, no food, no shopping, no hotels, nothing. I can easily get thru your state on I-95 without stopping for anything. I am only 1 person--so its no big deal. Imagine how many jobs would be lost in Georgia if all of us whom you hated did the same as me....

So a thread on C-D made you unhappy and as a result you have decided to boycott an entire state? Sorry, but that sounds more than a little like "I'm taking my toys and going home."

I really don't care what you think. This is not the only thread on CD where the conservative, narrow-minded, so-called Christians in Georgia have bashed their fellow countrymen because they are not from your precious little corner of the world.

As I said, life is far toooooooo short to spend my resources in a place where they are not welcome. I have no use for those who are "sweet as sugar" in your face and then stab you in the back.

To all of you who try to make other people's lives miserable because you just don't like their ideas--get a life. What in the world do you have to leave as your legacy? Hate??? You will be judged by the supreme God in the end. I would love to see just how proud you are of your actions when you are called upon by someone far greater than you are.

So, lovindecatur--I already took my toys home and I won't be going back--except on my way thru to someplace else. There are plenty of other places that I can go and enjoy this great country without the white supremacy attitude that seems to abound in your Georgia Mountains. By the way, not that it should matter, but I am a middle-aged, white female. This attitude that exists within this area makes me sick.

What you all need to get a grasp on is the fact that PERFECTION DOES NOT EXIST--SO TOLERANCE IS NECESSARY.

As I said, my apologies to the many wonderful people who live in Georgia, but yes, sometimes it only takes a couple of bad peaches to ruin the whole pie.

With this nasty attitude, I'm very surprised you had ANY pleasant trips to the North Georgia mountains. If you are truly judging a place you previously liked by a couple of entries on a message board, this is certainly NOT the place for you. Or hardly any place else, for that matter.

Perhaps you need to live by your own words here - PERFECTION DOES NOT EXIST--SO TOLERANCE IS NECESSARY. It works both ways.

Johnatl--Whatever....I am a really happy person. I am capable of seeing all sides of something. I've spent way too many of my younger years trying to fight for this, that and the other. In the end, I've simply adjusted to the fact that I don't need to waste my time fighting with anyone.

What I find amazing is that neither you nor lovin decatur jumped in to defend all of the good people of your state. Therefore, it appears that you seem to "accept" the attitudes expressed by those who would be most unwelcoming & unfriendly. You both jumped in to criticize me because I expressed my opinion about all of those who carry such negtive attitudes. Therefore, it seems as if what I had to say is far worse for you than those who make your state look bad. I'm just simply stating that if so many Georgians don't like us Floridians or yankees, then we should all just bypass you for other places--of which there are many.

SINCE YOU FEEL THE NEED TO BAIT ME, I WON'T BE BOTHERING TO REPLY TO ANY FURTHER CRITICISMS YOU FEEL YOU NEED TO AIM TOWARD ME. Everyone deserves a response to their criticisms and comments--so that is what you got. There is no need for me to further expound on anything else you might have to say. That is TOLERANCE! You had your say.

By the way, you and lovindecatur are missing the fact that this thread is no where near the only thread on the Georgia forum where these kinds of attitudes have been expressed. This just happened to be the last straw for me. As a female, with Florida tags, who always travels alone, I don't think I want to get caught by someone with these types of attitudes up thar in those them hills.

And yes, it is a shame--I have truely had wonderful trips up there. People were extremely kind to me. Helped me when I locked myself out of my car, had good conversations with me, etc. But I guess if I have to hide where I am from or where I currently live, somewhere along the line the welcome mat will smack me in the face.

I guess I was extremely naive in believing that your people enjoyed my company for who I was and not where "home" might be.

Well, guess we won't be seeing her anymore. Let's get back to our banjo pickin'.
