I lived in Gwinnett, worked in Athens and went to church in Winder three years ago. I have friends who live in the historic section who have redone two homes there and love it, but know that it is only a temporary move for them. Great, quiet place to raise children until they get to be school-aged, but you can't send children to school there. Winder is very poor, economically speaking, and the town government runs like a small town government, slow. The people are nice, but definitely not in a hurry for anything. I could not have lived there because it's just too far from everything I've come to appreciate: people with teeth, a decent grocery store and a place to shop for decent clothes (the closest mall is in Athens). I loved Gwinnett, although as Atlanta sprawls, Gwinnett is getting sucked into the big-city black hole.
