Chickamauga/LaFayette/Ringgold
I am a 53-y-o single female with no children looking to possibly relocate back to Georgia. I lived in Rome, GA in the 70s, but don't want to return to Rome.
I had heard that the Chickamauga/Ringgold area is peaceful, low crime, and friendly. I researched the area and liked the demographic stats on Wikipedia.
Looking for:- Low crime
- Older population
- Family values
- Slow pace of life
- Small Georgia town
- North GA, preferably near TN state line (but can be anywhere as long as it's at least 60 miles north of ATL)
In addition to Rome, I used to live in Atlanta, and now that I'm older, I'm looking for a small Northern Georgia town.
Can anyone shed some light on this or make a recommendation as to other towns?
Any info would be appreciated!

I'm moving this to the Georgia room.
Those areas are not part of metro Atlanta, so you'll have better luck getting info in the general Georgia room. Since it's sort of a suburb of Chattanooga as well, you may also wish to try that room.

Chickamauga is a charming small town with a lot of history of the Civil War variety. As you drive through, you can't help but notice the monuments that begin near the roadsides. I was personally very taken by the atmosphere here in just passing through. I think Ft. Oglethorpe nearby offers more shopping and restaurants, and certainly trips to Chattanooga would be something you would do monthly.

50something, I received your message so thought I would answer here. Yes, we still love it. Technically we live in Chickamauga although we are much closer to LaFayette. I love both towns. LaFayette is a little bigger and therefore has more dining and shopping options than Chickamauga. People are so friendly here. Small towns (as you will see from the links given by Irish above). Beautiful views just about everywhere you look. Tons of history. I would plan a visit to check out the area, even though gas prices are high. You really need to look around here. Ringgold is much closer to Chattanooga and therefore a little more crowded so that would not be my choice. I am a "booney living" kind of person. Check out the links above, contact the Walker County Chamber and have them send you some info. We are thrilled with our decision! Good luck with yours. If you need any more help, just send me a message and I will get back to you soon.

Dear Luvs (may I call you Luvs? ), Thank you too for your help -- this is great!!!! You hit the nail on the head -- a small friendly town is just what I'm seeking. I grew up in Rome, GA, so it'll be nice to return to NW GA. When I was young (back in the olden days), one of my Roman friends moved to Chickamauga after she married, and I used to visit her. I always found that town to be very friendly. That's one reason I thought Chickamauga would be a good fit for me (not to mention it's close to the lovely TN border, gee I hope they let me in when I want to visit ).
I like your comments about Ringgold vs Chickamauga -- I like the "booney" living too!
Ringgold would probably be my 2nd choice too, with Chickamauga being my first.
I've been researching locations in PA, NJ, TN, and GA, and I think I'm leaning towards GA. I really miss the laid-back lifestyle, the southern hospitality, and the warm & friendly people in NW GA, although I've met many nice people in NJ too.
One other thing about Georgia: I MISS THE SWEET TEA!!!!!!!
