Thomasville for kids?
Can anybody tell me anything good about Thomasville? We have 7 children and it isn't looking like a good place for us. We live in an area of FL largely populated by retirees, which we hate. A job is being offered in GA, but looking at the city's website it will be ANOTHER retirement community! Anything for the kids?

personally, i think it's a great town for kids. just bought our first house here after living here for the last 6 years... family oriented, good proximity to larger cities and still has a small town feeling. fits my bill.

yes thomasville is about as safe a town as you will find. there are a few retirees that have got tired of fl but not that many.

I am a lifetime resident of Thomasville (all but 10 of my nearly 40 years) and I can honestly say that this is a town all about the kids! We have the best YMCA around. The Y and the City have merged for an amazing sports program. The parks and sports park are beautiful. Every Church has great programs and there are a variety of para-church organizations for the Youth. The Cultural center has art, music, and drama programs year around. The Music and Drama Troupe trains kids to sing and perform. There is an amazing Boys and Girls Club and a Resource Center--and I'm just scratching the surface! Come on down--you won't ever want to leave!

thomasville has been marketing itself for quite some time as a retirement city.
i've worked in several neighborhoods where 95% of the residents were retirees who moved from florida.
the ymca in thomasville isn't bad, but its not the best either.
other than sports, there aren't a lot of options for kids. luckily its not far from tallahassee, and you can find plenty for them to do there.
there are good schools in thomasville. our son went to st. thomas day school for pre-k and kindergarten; we thought it was an awesome school. brookwood is good school for k-12. he would've went there next but is now at a private school in valdosta.
thomasville has a really nice victorian Christmas festival downtown every year.
i would say the proximity to tallahassee is the best thing about living in thomasville.
