Smile I want to hear about Winder.

I've been checking out that area and really like that you can get a decent piece of land (1/2-1 acre or more) and a nice house w/ basement for 250k. I've heard that it's a nice place to live, and not too far out there.

Can anyone give me their thoughts on Winder, the amount of traffic we would face to get to say, the Mall of GA, and what Winder has to offer?

We have 3 young children and are looking for a good place to raise them, is this the place?

Default Winder/Athens

Here is a map>>>
http://www.google.com/maps?q=Winder,...i=map&ct=title

Winder is NE from Atlanta--toward Athens--home of the University of GA. I would infer that education is a priority in this area. A 'small town' that will grow in the next decade???

You would be in a more rural area just beyond Atlanta. There should be fewer traffic problems etc.

Hi Tiffani-

Though Winder is really close to Dacula, I know nothing about it other than it has a WalMart (don't ask!). It is a very small town from what I gather. I will ask around a little, and see what I can find out.

This is the population info on their website, but this is from 2000 I think:
Quick Facts

Statistics and Demographics

Geographic Information
Total Feet Above Sea Level 984
Area (square miles) 10.84

Population
Total Population (2000) 10,201
Population per square mile 941.5

Population by Gender
Male 4,728 (47.1%)
Female 5,314 (52.9%)

Population by Age
0-15 2,267 (22.6%)
16-24 1,165 (11.6%)
25-44 3,065 (30.5%)
45-64 1,972 (19.6%)
65+ 1,573 (15.7%)

Welcome to the Official Web Site of the City of Winder, Georgia

commute to mall of ga depends on where you are in winder. if you have to go through downtown winder or access 316 at rush hour, plan on about 45 min. it's only about 25 min otherwise, you just take 316 to hwy 20 (big intersection w/ red light, you can't miss it) and go right.

if you want to go places towards atlanta very often, i would recommend staying somewhere closing to I-85. 316 is a good expressway, but it has red lights, so there are lots of wrecks, which means lots of traffic jams (not that you won't see traffic jams on 85).
