Columbus suburbs are growing. Harris County just opened a new middle school for the Southern end of the county. Harris county is in the top 5 counties in Georgia for the highest per capita income in the state. Forbes ranked Aflac the 30th best place to work for in the U.S. The only other company in Georgia to have this distinction is in Atlanta, and it is a much smaller company than Aflac. Macon would be a nice town if there crime rate was much lower. Crime in Macon is widespread, I have done a study on Georgia crime and Macon can be more dangerous than Atlanta in many parts. Give Columbus 5 years, you will see a city transformed into a prestigious metro area. I live in Athens, GA and I'm a senior at UGA. Therefore I am not biased towards any of the cities. I have just studied sociology for 3 years.

Augusta is not growing faster then other cities in Georgia. If you look at just city population.. it has had virtually zero growth since 2000 census.
If you comapare growth rates of various MSAs throughout Georgia it shows that Athens, Savannah, Valdosta, Dalton, Brunswick, and even Macon MSAs are growing faster than Augusta's MSA. metro Athens had the fastest growing MSA in the state after metro Atlanta with an 8 year growth rate of 18%. Augusta's was around 7%.

Augusta MSA has never lost pop. Okay through the rough times our city pop stayed about the same. Look at how many people the city limits of Macon and Savannah have lost and are still losing. Augusta city pop and Richmond county Hephzibah/Mcbean/Blythe are growing now.
From 2007-2008 Macon MSA grew by .3% or 950 people. Dalton 0.7 OR 972
What census are you looking at? If you look at percentages Athens at 1.6, Savannah 1.5 and Brunswick 1.3 did grow faster than Augusta 1.1. Even though Augusta MSA gained 3,000 more people than Athens. And 1,000 more people than Savannah from 07-08.
If you ride through Augusta the only city you mention. Close in construction with Augusta would be Savannah. Augusta has more than Savannah too.

No one said that Augusta's MSA has lost population, just that it is not growing as fast as some others in the state.. You have to compare rates of growth.. not just absolute numbers. Now the city of Augusta did lose population quite consistently for a number of years up until about a cpl of years ago when it gained a cpl of hundred ppl from the previous year.
For instance the New York metro area probably gained more people last year than metro Atlanta.. but Atlanta is actually growing at a much faster rate than New York.

If you actually read carefully you would have noticed that he said nothing about Augusta MSA losing pop, he said the city of Augusta...... which has lost pop it went 198,000 to 193,000.....

Hold up, Columbus is bigger than u think. I moved here from Philly and i have to say, Columbus has some potential. It is bigget than savannah, auguasta, and WAY bigger than Macon. The only flaw about Columbus is the crime. Im tired of everyone trash-talkin' Columbus!

man you have distorted sense of reality. Columbus may be bigger and more spread out than Macon, with more outter suburban type areas, but it certainly looks more country than Macon and Augusta/Savannah too. I agree Colmbus is bigger than many visitors may think, because of that same "country" / "non urban" appeal about it that I speak of.
and as far as being "bigger" than Savannah and Augusta, thats just down right laughable Columbus couldnt touch Savannah with a 20 ft. pole.
