Augusta skyline is twice as big as macon. Thats why we are the second biggest city in georgia

Get it right the second largest metro in Ga.............. and Augusta's skyline is not bigger than Macon's and this pic only shows a small potion of the skyline, who cares who has the biggest skyline.....surely not Augusta

You obviously did not live in Athens in the 80's when the Mall opened and all the anchor stores (davidson's, sears, JC Penny's) moved out of downtown. It took some time before the local stores/bars/restaurants began to move into the vacant storefronts. I remember the big empty parking deck on Broad Street right across from old campus. No cars could park in it due to the poor design. It's now condos (BTW, Macon has two of the same design, one is now part of the Dempsy Apt...who built these things?) I also remember the old building just as you came into downtown from the east side, down from the 40 watt. That place stood vacant for like-ever along with the Georgia Theater on Lumpkin and Clayton. DT Athens really started to move in the late 80's/early 90's (when the city/county consolidated..hear that Macon!) and when UGA began expanding with Lottery money.

Hmm. Downtown slow...vacant storefronts...buildings that eventually became condos.
Vacant buildings starting to get repurposed...city/county consolidation. An expanding university...
I just can't place my finger on what city that sounds like. Perhaps Disgusta can help.

Augusta is not leaving any 2nd tier city behind. Columbus and Macon are right there with Augusta.
