There is a place called "Love-joy", near griffin situated on Hwy 85, that may be suitable for you. Try there.

Griffin
Don't give up on Griffin without drivng through the beautiful place. I love Peachtree City, Newnan, MicDonough & Locus Grove. You can't go wrong in any of those places. Click on city-data main page and type in these cities to learn more. Then go to MSN.com and click on real estate. You can see pictures and inside most homes.
We lived in Windermere Downs for many years, then moved 1 hour south of Orlando. We plan on moving to the exact area you are looking at. We have friends in Griffin. Their kids were happy in the schools. We homeschool, so schools won't matter much to us. I have a 10th grader, girl and a 5th grader, boy. Plus two, graduated. I have homeschool friends in McDonough. She loves it there, she moved from FL, also.
I'm sooooo envious! We have decided to delay our move intil the economy picks up. My husband thought this would not be the best time to look for a job and to keep the one he has a while longer. K

While Griffin used to be a regional location to move to, it has declined in overall quality of life measures. The school system leaves much to be desired and of all the housing units in the city about 65%+ of them are rental units. Talk to any real estate agent anywhere in this country and the general consenus would be to not buy in a place with such a high percentage. It has basic shopping but the downtown area is not a place I shop. Usually I have to travel out of Griffin to find more selection. If you want better opportunities for schools, shopping, jobs, you should look towards Fayette County and Henry County. I will say however that Griffin has huge unrealized potential but it will take years for it to come about. To many things have to change for it to happen anytime soon.

Check out the very small communities of Woolsey and Rising Star. The closer to Rising Star (which by the way is not an actual city, never incorporated and consumed by PTC) the better off you are for conveniences but this will certainly keep you within your time guidelines and get you the best of both worlds. Western Woolsey is PTC schools and Northern Woolsey is Fayetteville Schools which are still good but not as appealing to some. For the kids sake, I would choose the western most front myself. More well established older neighborhoods where you can find a rental easier too. Be prepared to pay though, county homes generally pull a premium sticker price. The last time I rented there was in '95-'96 while my then new home was under construction. We rented a 2/2 daylight basement about 1150 sqft and paid $1200/mo. Sorry to say I haven't really kept up with rental prices there since. It was very nice though. We had 18 acres to ramble around on with our horses and a nice 4 acre pond to use at our disposal too.
