I live in Greene County, 12 miles out from Greensboro (at the lake). I love the town of Greensboro and surrounding countryside. As others have stated, it is beautiful country. Major development is coming to the area - including a newly opened home depot and of course, the requisite walmart is on its way. Both up by I-20. Fortunately, a ways from Union Point. I don't have school aged children, but if I did, I'd live in Watkinsville or would home school. Most major development is out at the lake area (Lake Oconee). Many new condos going up, and a new 400 acre development for age 50+ living. Also planned is a new 1500 or so acre community. Madison also has alot of growth and is nice area. Best to come and see for yourself!!

thanks for your help where are these developments planned? do you have a road name or something I am fairly familiar with the area. I would kind of like to stay away from them if I purchase in the area. I love the rural feel of the area. I don't really want a walmart, lowes, or home depot any place close. I have seen what they do to small towns first hand. I am used to dealing with horrible schools remember I live in Florida where they pack a classroom with 27 kids and one teacher. Its a only the strong survive attitude in FL schools. what about greshamville any thoughts?

There's really nothing at Greshamville. It's not even an incorporated town...but it does have the Greshamville Mall! Forgot about that.

You are close to the Oconee County line there, though. If I were you I would look for a place on the Oconee side if you are looking in that area anyway. The schools will be night and day better, even if you do have to drive to Watkinsville for school. (Colham Ferry Elementary) Morgan County schools are fine too, though.

I cannot stress enough how much better the schools in the counties surrounding Greene are. Morgan County, Oconee County, even Oglethorpe would be better. And all just as rural.

Don't get me wrong, Greensboro is a neat little town. But the schools are the main drawback.

I agree with Milo's comments regarding schools. Farmington is a nice rural/farm area and you get those better schools. Also not too far from Athens for shopping and cultural activities. Also close to Watkinsville and growth for business opportunity. Greshamville is very rural and long distances to schools, and is in Greene County. And the renowned Greshamville Mall even has a deer cooler - can't say that for those uppity malls around Atlanta!

Greene county is open to me. Very "county". Some very nice homes. But I have not seen much of it. Just a few houses we have pressure washed and painted. They have had a good football team the last couple of years with the QB being one of the best in the nation.
