Kennesaw, Evans and Dalton
A few thoughts...
If you are looking for a safe area - Kennesaw has got to be the safest! It is a law there that every homeowner possess a gun. Crime in nil.
Besides, Kennesaw is a nice little area not too far from Marietta.
Evans is another safe place. Crime rate is down although the population is growing, which says a lot for the sheriff. The "crime" there is mostly shop-lifting. Traffic is not much of an issue.
Dalton has a lot of carpet mills and a lot of really cheap labor. That said, there are a lot of nice areas around Dalton.
Georgia is a really nice place to live. It is beautiful, the weather is mostly always mild, no matter where you are, a few hours drive will take you to the mountains, the beach, a city for shopping. Great state!

Moving to GA

We were hoping to live within 15 miles or so of his work, but now we are nearly scared to death to move to GA at all!All of the info sounds like GA is a horrible place to try to have a safe home. We have no children at home anymore, so schools are not a problem. We did go and look around a few years ago, finding Marietta just beautiful, but very heavy traffic and growing very fast.Anyone out there have any information about the areas close to the Dow Chemical plant sites? Any help appreciated!

I have found the best place to live in Ga is Peachtree City. That is where I live right now. It is a quiet, golfcart type community, and is pretty safe. We drive our golf carts to the store, malls and of course Walmart. The sad thing is I am moving this year to be close to family in Arkansas, so I am scouting out Jackson, TN.

Hi Sandra.
I love Dalton and I know there is a Dow facility here, along with lots of other major employers. I live in the historic area near the downtown and I love it. The houses are amazing (mine was built in 1873). Lots of new things are being added downtown...new brick-oven pizza place, new blues club, a great wine bar called Planet of the Grapes which people come to from all over the region. There are some nice home and gift boutiques, a quaint used book store/cafe, some very nice kids stores, several nice eateries, and the requisite businesses downtown too. They've even recently added downtown lofts! There is new development going on all around town (condos, housing, an addition to the hospital, etc.) Retail popping up everywhere - we just got a new Talbots, etc. I've lived in bigger cities, but I'm enjoying Dalton very much. My commute time is 9 minutes!!!! Anyway, the community has a web portal that links you to realtors and schools and churches and arts organizations etc. You can look at it at Greater Dalton, Call It Home

You may want to go to realtor.com to compare available land/ house prices. Check out zip code 30710. It is close to Chattanooga and Dalton but prices are very reasonable.
I thnk you will find 2,500 + sq ft houses and a 5+ acres of land for about $250k. Many people in the area have horses etc
