If you can make the commute look into cartersville - it's pretty nice and you'll always have better than avg rolling hills. You'll burn yourself out on the commute to atlanta though. Douglas or Hall county would keep you in close proximity to downtown and hill country (30-60min trip).

I agree that Athens is a good place to check, although rent prices in that area are typically about $500 per bedroom - highly controlled by the college students. I'm sure it isn't this way in Orlando, but in NE Georgia, an $800 per month payment would buy a decent house in a decent neighborhood. If you are looking in Athens, you probably would want to check into buying something, rather than renting. You might also want to check out Hartwell. Hartwell is a lakefront resort area. There isn't much directly in Hartwell as far as new jobs are concerned (unless you are a realtor, banker, or restauranteer), but it is only about 10-15 miles from Anderson, South Carolina which is a high growth area. There are probably many jobs to be found in Anderson. I know of one cute lake home with a rental payment of $800 per month in Hartwell, or you could -there again- buy a decent house in a nice off-lake neighborhood and keep your monthly payment under the $800 per month range. Good luck with your move!
