Thumbs up Making the "Georgia Move"(Thumbs up???)

Making the "Georgia Move"
Maybe someone can give me some more advice about good areas where my mom could relocate to in Georgia. I've recieved a few responses in another forum that were helpful but would love to get more responses.

Things to consider for my mom:
- loves to walk
- low crime is preferrable; aware that crime is everywhere but comparing
2 shootings to 5+ shooting within a month, etc. is a different
story. It's good to be aware of your surrounding, but would not want
her to live in fear in the state of Georgia that I've heard so much
about
- she enjoys getting out the house(walking, driving)enjoying the scenary
without trying to dodge tons and tons of traffic.
- Would prefer an easy commute back and forth to work. Decent
employment and decent(not too expensive) housing/apartment is a
must. Not looking for a place that just has employement as far as
resturants, malls and other stores, etc. She likes these places but not
for work.
- Would prefer a place with good resturants, shopping areas, libraries,
post offices, doctor offices, and hospital/s. that's close by where she
wouldn't have to travel the interstate to get to there.
- She likes to enjoy herself, but she's not a party gal; and when I say
that I mean clubbing because there are some older mothers that still
club but she's not in that bracket anymore. Not looking for an area
just based on clubs as entertainment.

I do not want to travel the whole state of Georgia to decide where to live, any advice or any suggestions would be very helpful. I did get some really good advice about Cobb County , but I heard it was very expensive to live there. I also heard alot of bad reviews of alot more cities that I was considering; alot of mixed emotions. I would really like to move her to Georgia but hearing all the bad reviews and remarks makes me wonder if Georgia should even be considered. I have been doing alot of other research, but good advice from someone who really knows about the different areas and have experienced more advantages than disadvantages and not just alot of hear-say would be very helpful to me and I would appreciae the advice.

Picture, If you were moving your mother in an area in Georgia that meets some of the things that I listed above, where would it be. Just curious . Besides God, her brothers, sisters, and friends, I'm her only child and want nothing but the best for her. Not looking for perfect because it doesn't exist on earth, but somewhere close to it. It would be really bad if I chose a place for her where we're both like ... Please help, our time in "B town(Biloxi Mississippi) is getting short. Thanks for your tiime and help in advance.

Alot depends on two things:

- What's "affordable" to her with regard to housing? There's a big difference between the areas that will be recommended if you can afford a $150k house and the areas if you can afford a $500k house.

- What line of work is she in, and how much experience does she have?

Could you tell me why she won't be moving with you? Does she have friends and family already here?

That said, I think Rome Georgia might be ideal.

However, unless you are in driving distance, each time you want to visit her, you will have to fly to Atlanta or Chattanooga and drive.

Hey BobKovacs

That's not bad for a house considering the prices these days, but I know she'll think that's alot but she'll want to rent a house or apartment first , probably nothing over $700 a month if she can help it, depending on the hourly wages.

She's in housekeeping right now. She was a caregiver and worked for 23 years in the manufacturing business, but she'll try anything if she like it and if she she was given a chance.

Hey Lastminutemom

I will be going to Manassas VA, but she doesn't want to go up that far. Too cold for her(she can be cold natured) I already asked her so she said, "What about Georiga". I was like, "Well it is next door to SC where most of her family is from and considering she used to stay in cheraw SC. She doesn't want to live in SC or NC.

Her mother,(my Grandma)passed away at the beginning of the year, who she was taking care of(full time)for years. Now, she's ready to live life to the fullest. I just want her to be happy in a place where she can see a place other than Cheraw, SC. It really didn't have alot of job opportunities there.

I don't mind driving at all. When she was living in Cherwa,SC, I used to drive from Mississippi to there, or from Mississipp to VA(not a lot though, while making a stop in Cheraw. I don't mind flying at all. Once I get in VA(which I don't intend to stay long), me and my boyfriend will be moving back somewhere between FL and GA considering his mom stays in Columbus GA, so we'll eventually end back up closer to our moms.

She doesn't have any family and friends in Georgia, but she likes to meet new people.

I'd suggest looking at Peachtree City and surrounding towns both in Fayette County and Coweta County. The traffic is far lighter here in general than areas to the north of Atlanta. Accessability to the airport is great. (It is an airline area ).There are golf paths every where for walking and the crime rate is very low.( Check site called zip skinny for stats - Peachtree City area code is 30269).

Thank you for your response, I'll look into it. How are the jobs there. Are there numerous jobs to choose from?

Unfortunately, just like much of the country, the economy has slowed in ATL. As to housekeeping jobs, I expect they pay much less than she may be use to here. Georgia has been one of the fastest growing states for illegal immigration and this has really driven down the wages in housekeeping, etc.

Just something else for you to check into.

We enjoy Valdosta, GA. Only 18 miles to the Florida line, 2 hours from the Georgia coast, 3 1/2 hours to Atlanta. Email me if you would like more information.
